these where my first reels: i have two of this reels and also a BPS Rick Clunn RCX10HC I still use those but lets be honest and i don't like the bps at all, it feels cheap. the quantums are good but the paint is starting to come off. the BPS pro qualifier will be on sale for $50 dollars and i don't have $500 to buy 3 more curados. i wonder if the PQ will be better than any of quantum and rick clunn reel.? My 3 good reels are a: 2 curados and revo winch.

I had 2 of the Rick Clunn BPS reels and enjoyed them although they didn't last very long, so I'd steer clear of the PQ. I never had any luck with Quantum stuff so I don't buy that brand. For recommendations I can highly recommend Lews reels (except the Lazer with grafite frames) so I'd advise looking into them. You can buy the SS or BB series for under 100. The Shimano stuff just isn't what they used to be until you get into the $200+ range.

All but 1 of my reels are Pro Qualifiers and I swear by them. For $100 you cant beat the value, and this reel is just as good as if not better than some of the higher end reels ive tried. I sure wouldn't discount it. And you mentioned them for $50.00, ill be looking for this sale because Ill be buying a lot of them. Good luck

just another view at this, but if money is kinda tight which for most of us it is...you may consider bass pro's 6 month same as cash...works great and you can budget your new equipment better

I have fished with the pq and the mettle and in my honest opinion, the pq is the better reel. I will be picking up a few when bps puts them on sale. It starts on Feb. 6th I believe.

AFter having cleaned and taking apart severl of Abu's cheaper line reels (black max, silver max, pro max) I would reccommend getting these if you are on a tight budget. If something breaks on them the parts are cheap and readily available to fix them and get you going again. Also I would reccommend EBAY as a great source to find and buy reels. I love Daiwa reels personally. I have 2 Tatula's and both were bought off ebay for less than $90 (retail $149+tax!). This is just my .02 though. The problem with the BPS and no name reels is that when something breaks (and it will) its alot harder to source parts if you even can at all. Which means youll be buying another one soon anyways.

if u are really into fishing then u need to spend the money for a quality reel. I initally started with the walmart reels. upgraded to the curados, thought they were the bomb, got some chronarchs, thought they were so much better until i got a couple of cores. At the lest u should get some curados, even the older models which can be found for around 100 are practically bulletproof.

I fish on a budget too and you can't beat that reel for $50. Most of the time you get what you pay for but sometimes you pay for a brand. Don't get me wrong I love my shimanos and I know I'm getting a good reel when I buy one. But I'm not willing so spend that much on a brand when you can get something of this quality that much cheaper. And this is my personal opinion but even at no interest don't finance a hobby.
I've got the mettle, pro qualifier, curado b, chronarch e and I just bought another PQ this weekend to move the mettle to spare. I don't fish a ton but I've never had anything more than a bearing go out in any of these reels and those are always replaceable. Read the reviews on bass pro website about the pro qualifier and remember most of those folks paid $100 for the reel. You can barely get a reel repaired for $50.

I fish PQ's almost exclusively and for the price right now that is the way to go. In over 3 years of fishing them I haven't had a single problem and I fish close to 100 days a year. I just picked up some more for just in case reels while they are on sale.

I bought 3 PQ's and the drag went out on 2 of the 3 after a couple of days of fishing. Since I got them all at the same time I might have just got a batch that was bad. I switched to Abu and have not had any issues. 3rd one is still working but it is not in my heavy use group.

I fish with the bpq, they are great reels smooth and great casting. I also like the h2os the mettle is a nice one for a great price, I however lake the h2o menace bc it cast a little smother. You can't go wrong with ether one. Walmart has the kvd burner combo on sale for $116 it's a kvd quantum energy pt bait cast reel which feels good along with a micro guide my 6'10" rod a heck of a value.
