Hey are you guys bank fishing or fishing off kayaks? I live in Austin and wanted to plan a fishing/camping trip out there around the first week of March. I read some where there are alligators there, is that for real? Doesn't sound like a safe place to fish. Camping and fishing in the state park is great.. Nails creek facebook page Yes there are a couple of gators but you will never seen them much less have any safety issues concerning them. The biggest safety concern anyone should have is hypothermia/drowning in that cold cold water.. Be safe and wear your PFD when boating. Don't let fears of critters keep you off the water.. those snakes and gators live there all the time and they will avoid you much more often then you know.. those reports you hear about someone getting into trouble with snakes or the like is usually the persons own doing.. just live and let live and remember.. you are the visitor in their home so act accordingly.. do no damage..

No wonder I was only able to get a handful yesterday, you had already cleaned out the hole. I couldnt get there till about 5, got off at 4 and drove from Bryan
If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.
In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

It is funny/strange how fear & dumb follow each other...

Im heading down to newmans bottom with a buddy tommorow morning. I know the front is coming in tonight and there will be a big spike in pressure, so im not expecting a good bite. Still, its better than not fishing!
Went to newmans this past sunday, caught 10. Of I b figured out the pattern earlier, would have been closer to my limit.

I've been wanting to take my 10 year old son out to the creeks for some white bass fishing. I'm new to white bass creek fishing, so I have some questions.
1. Which creek (Nails, Cedar, Yegua, Jerdelle) is the easiest for young kids to fish. 2. Are minnows effective for white bass in the creeks.
This forum is a great resource. I appreciate any help y'all can provide. Thanks.

Yegua is good for big whites. Heard cedar is too but have not fished it. Minnows are good for white bass but if you are moving spot to spot, they can get tiresome carrying them around. Can find some good spots if you get there early. It will be packed on weekend. Curly tail and Maribou jigs work best for me, but I'm still kinda of new to the white bass spawn. I'm still learning also. Yellow and white work best. Caught big fat female on black/chartreuse roadrunner.

Caught 3 at Newmans bottom today some other people had more. It was my first time there so it took me a little while to find a good spot. The fish are there.

I took the day off myself. It was a great day of fishing. I was on a mission to catch a 15 inch white bass today. I caught quite a few over 14 inches. Finally, I landed one that went 16 inches. I called it a day and left them biting. Mission trophy bass was successful

There is a fairly safe bank area on the other side of the bridge to the right. Store bought minnows are usually not very effective. Seined minnows or shad are usually much better. You can fish with a 1/32" or 1/16" jig with a chartreuse curly tail grub body but the creek is full of snags and tangles. Fishing a jig under a cork is also an option but the fish have been on the bottom and fairly lethargic.

Pulled out 13 Wednesday morning. Bite totally shut down by 8am. Guess I’m taking a few days off to rejuvenate. I am experiencing some lower back issues. It bothers me that I can’t get out there and beat the banks any more like I use to. This is definitely one of my favorite types of fishing.
