I like it because it is challenging, but relaxing. It is not running up and down the lake at 60 mph, but rather cruising and enjoying the beauty. My favorite way to fish was from a tube float, dropping jigs in and around brush, back in a creek all by myself. Now my wife and I fish from a boat, and she never complains when we don't catch, but always enjoys the time on the water.

I crappie fish because they are easy to catch. I also like that I can sometimes catch more than the seasoned anglers and guides. It makes them mad to see an old man in a rickety old jon boat catching more than them! I love it!!

Besides being about the tastiest swim in the water and the "THUMP", I fish socially. We have a lot of regulars that I fish with at our bank side honey hole. Most of 'em are way more experienced than me, but we each have things to offer that will improve our game.
I love the solitude of fishing alone in the beauty our Lord has made us stewards of, but it's also nice to share that with someone. (especially if you hook into a monster on 4# test.)
I work in retail and my spot is just a few minutes away from the store. The crowds and busyness can really be stressful, but thirty minutes with a crappie rod in my hand is a great stress reliever and it charges up the ol' batteries to get back to work and finish the day (so I can crappie fish that evening).
I guess crappie fishing is a way of life. I have a couple of T shirts. One says "It looks like it's gonna be a crappie day" and the other says "I fish so I don"t choke people". They're fun to wear, but I guess I should find one that says "Thank you Lord"
Proverbs 11:1 The fisherman's verse ------------- "Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish." Ovid (43BC-17AD) John

Because it is so relaxing! I bass fish too, but bass are nomads always on the move. Different techniques, rods, lures .... all the time!
When I launch the boat to crappie fish, I know the 1st five places I'm going to try. I built them. Once those are fished, I have a pretty good idea what color jig the fish want and what depth they are going to be.
Then it's just a matter of time until you arrive at the right place at the right time and stumble upon the mother lode. Once you solve those variable the pattern will last for a week or two, so crappie are reliable and the reward for your success is fried crappie !!!

Someone ask a guy why he rode a Harley. His answer, "If you have to ask the question then you probably would not understand the answer."
Crappie fishing for me falls in the same category. Most everyones comments summarize my reasons. When I was a kid, I would get excited when I found out we were going fishing. Now I'm and older man and I still have that excitement about going fishing.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles
