I love to hunt whitetail and the process is very similar. I want to understand the crappies as much as the deer. I enjoy both hunting while can be by myself and get away from work or take friends. I only eat deer for the year and no beef we thin out a lot of does. I am the same way with fish.....hunt to eat but be selective on what we take.
I just need some underwater trail cameras to find the big boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone needs a hobby!

The one thing I can remember from my early days as a child is fishing. I thank my father for taking us and my mom for teaching us. Because shes the reason I fish. Have fished for everything that will bite. Saltwater to freshwater. Did the big bass boat tournament thing, and slowly evolved to crappie. Hardly ever fish out of a boat anymore just go for the fun of it, doesn't matter where as long as there's water, still challenging and crappie jig will catch just about anything. Great stress reliever and still get excited every time I go. Biting or not it's hard to leave because of the anticipation of just one more thump."5 more minutes that's all I need" which turns into hours and a mad wife, but always worth it.

My wife and I both love to fish. Crappie happens to be our favorite freshwater fish because they are the best tasting fresh water fish. We also enjoy saltwater fishing and went to Gulfport four times a year to fish there when our health allowed it. I grew up fishing as a boy with my grandfather. My wife did not start to fish until in her thirty's but loves it as much as I do now. As to why we love it so much is hard to say. For years it allowed us to escape the stress of the working week and relax with the family while doing as much or as little as we wished to do. Now that we are retired that can not be the reason we still love to do it. I know the past year has been rough on both of us since health problems have prevented us from fishing. It appears it might be another two months before my wife can fish again and this has her very frustrated. It does not matter now many nor how few we catch. Nor does it matter if they are slabs or dinks. Being on the water is enough to satisfy both us. Catching crappie is a bonus and the days we have five to take home to eat are jackpot days. I don't think crappie fishing would be as much fun if either one of us was obsessed with catching our limits each day or catching the biggest slabs on the lake. We fish for ourselves, not to be able to brag about what great anglers we are to the world. We enjoy having a relaxing day on the water so even the non-productive days are fun to us. I don't mind being skunked or catching dinks, as I still spent the time on the water. I joke that fishing allows us to be as lazy as we want to be while looking productive to the rest of the world. But in a way that is true, as I can be active casting lures and jigs or lazy using a float to do the work for me. Long winded as usual but I still can't explain why we love it so much.

When you slowly ease down an 8 ft Pro Angler rod and it feels like a grenade goes off in your hand, there's nothing like it. Then, as you lift up, the end of your pole lags from the weight of a huge slab breaking the surface. Its mouth is wide open with a sickle hook locked firmly into the top. Perfection.
