What creek does the spawn usually happen in? What ramp to use? How far upstream can i get a jon boat. I have never been to this lake. Would like to get as much info before i go give it a try.

Lake Houston has white bass runs, but over the last few years it has gotten worse and worse. The lake itself is getting silted in from strip pit mine overflows and the white bass population has suffered tremendously. There is a private boat ramp just east of US 59. Cost between 5 and 10 bucks and is very rough. There are 2 rivers that come together just west of the 59 bridge. If you go, your best chances are on Spring Creek. Very shallow creek so use your best judgment heading upstream and good luck.

I have been thinking about hitting up either Spring creek or cypress creek this year. I am a bank fisher so will have to hit those park areas with bank access. Any prediction on when they make it up that far?

I fished Caney Creek at Lake Houston Wilderness Park a couple of days last year and caught a handful. There's not a whole heckofa lot of walkable creek though. It does look like it'd be really nice with a kayak or canoe though, and there can be a crowd. I'll probably give it a go this weekend. Hopefully beat the crowds.

I have heard of guys wading along those creeks and others, but I have never fished there myself. Wading kind of creeps me out with all the snakes around here, and the potential for a gator!

Didnt catch any sandbass in caney crk. But caught a few crappie on sunday. Bite was slow almost dead sticking. It blows my mind how stupid people can be when driving in the crk.

Didn't get a chance to get out. Might try again this weekend though. With the front coming through on Thursday and a couple of warm sunny days behind us, it looks like tomorrow will be the best shot. May be time for a vacation day. . .

Tomorrow sounds like a good day to give it a try. I got clearance from the wife to go fishing Saturday morning so I am planning on heading up that way. Haven't decided where yet. I am limited to bank access only, so I need to do more research.

I played hookie yesterday afternoon and walked the bank at Caney Creek from the canoe access at Lake Houston Wilderness park. Caught 3, all in the same spot on a road runner. They didn't seem to care which color. Look for deep water. 2 keepers. No other bites. I was the only one fishing while I was there so it was nice.
Talked to a guy who pulled up as I was leaving, and he said he caught near a limit the day before in the same general area. No big females yet though.
I might try on Saturday as well. There's a snake presentation thing for the kids at the Nature Center at 2, so I'll have an excuse to be out there.

Anyone ever consider launching at the Good Times Marina north of old 90 and running up to the dam? I would think there would be some whites up that way.
