Heading to San Diego in May. Would love to get a day trip in while I'm out there. Anyone know a guide they can recommend with in 2 hours of there?

I fished with Captain James Nelson in 2013 and had a great time.

We went fishing for bay bass and calicos and we caught great numbers, about 75 fish. All on swimbaits and plastics. Size is small on the bay bass, but the calicos can get pretty big. Pound for pound, the bay bass fight harder than a LMB. Scenery is awesome too, I highly recommend it.

Here is a good resource for the San Diego area.
http://sdfish.com/
Lots of information on the lakes that are fishing good and links to local guides. If you can find someone on Vail Lake the fishing is always good. Diamond Valley should be good as well. The water is very clear out here and the tackle is down-sized from the usual in Texas. Should be some left over trout as well. If Barrett Lake is open, it is unreal. 50+ fish days are not unusual. There are some huge bass out here since they are fed rainbow trout all winter. Drop-shot, jigs, crank baits, and soft plastics are all good. The largest line used is 10 lb test.

Rusty Brown,(2013 US Open champ at Havasu) is a great guy n guide. He guides Diamond Valley, Perris, Hodges (and many more). A great guy, and obviously a great stick n lite line guru. http://www.rustybasshook.com
Let him know Scott Eberhard from the Big Bear tournaments sent ya! He's a great guy! Art Berry hasnt been guiding in quite some time. Pete Marino is another great choice for DVL or Perris. http://www.petemarinoguideservice.com

I don't know if he goes that far south, but Rich Tauber 818-439-1154. If he doesn't, I'm sure he can recommend someone. I have an old tournament partner who lives out there in San Diego. He can hook you up with someone I'm sure. Call him he used to be on here all the time Todd Shannon (fat bass master was his screen name) 619-817-9956 tell him I sent you. If you want to do some salt water fishing, he's the man for that...

Do yourself a favor & google search former FLW Pro Gabe Bolivar.....he will run himself ragged trying to help you catch your fish of a lifetime! Plus he will teach you tips & techniques that will help you on your home lake. I have an 8 & 9lb'er with Gabe & one day we quit counting the 4's, 5's, & 6's we caught. I WILL SAY that I WOW'd him one of my many days with Gabe with my skills of pitching & flipping one of the few boat docks on the lakes we fished.....while he sat back & ate a sandwich over lunch! LOL! Of course I fish Texoma primarily for the last 16 years so who wouldn't develop some pretty good boat dock flipping skills! LOL!

Do yourself a favor & give Gabe a call.....he's an awesome guy to guide you in southern California!
