I can do it but I hate it. Weeding through short fish irritates me!

Yes. I know them VERY well.

You do know the laws were different back when that fish was caught...right? You obviously, since you're trying to be a bad [censored] here, know that when that record fish was caught, that anyone could LEGALLY fish with a cane pole and NO FISHING LICENSE....right?

Go back to your office Boss. Lol. I got this....

I'm one of the few that loves to fish light line. Flick shake, shakey head or drop shot. I had fish over 5lbs my last 2 trips out on 6lbs floro. Rarely do I win with a finesse tackle alone. Many tournaments I've won because it helped me fill my limit. That is what I use it for. Nothing is worst than to waist a big bass because you couldn't put a limit with it! Also my biggest tournament bass was 9.13 on EM with the fairy wand. One last fact, in the past 10 years I've caught as many 5lbs+ fish on my spinning rods as I have baitcast rods.

I've used drop shot for many years catching trout in the high mountain lakes, but no way for bass.

Cheers,

George

Ok. I give up already.

I'll take my drop shot stuff with me to Mississippi. And I guess I even invest in some of those crazy expensive drop shot weights. If the going gets tough, I'll try it. If it makes a difference. I'll report back and eat crow till I puke.

Back a little bit on topic, yes, I heard him say that. It caught me off guard, too, because I remembered he was considered a master of the drop shot. I like MLF for several reasons, but one of them is that the pros have to completely re- think the way they've learned to compete against each other.

The reason he was using the DS is because you can pull in a huge number of bass, literally one after the other, and not worry about culling for a limit. I think it's a very refreshing way to run a tournament, especially one that is made for TV. It's the complete opposite of the way he's competed his entire life. In that situation, when guys are struggling, it makes sense to drop shot, catch 20 one-pound fish and get to the weight limit.

Maybe he hates it, but he was doing it for the reasons mentioned above - in order to get to the weight limit, it was a great technique. He probably wasn't going to catch an eight pounder, which I don't think anyone did that day, but he could catch many 14" fish at one pound without moving around much.

I think the MLF format (real-time scoring, no limits of fish, catch and release immediately) will catch on and become the norm - at least I hope so. Tournament anglers will change their mindset away from catching a quick limit and then spending the rest of the day culling. I still love to see hawgs and toads and lunkers caught, but throwing a drop shot and catching 40 lbs of fish while other people try to figure out a way do the same, is just as exciting to me and I think it makes the anglers better in the long run.*

Which I realize is not the popular opinion here.
