Have been to several Classics but have never taken my boat to get out and actually watch from that perspective. Considering taking it this year. Anyone here ever done that before? Pros/Cons appreciated. If you went did you fish some during the day or just chase and watch.

I appreciate your responses.

Tim

Went to the Classic on Grand Lake OK, followed Ike and a few other guys around. Was a pretty cool experience. The Con is the number of other people doing the same thing. When an angler takes off, it is like a !@#$ storm as everybody gets on plane to follow him. But overall I enjoyed the experience and got a lot of good pics and got to see how anglers work certain baits. Also see some of the spots they work as well.

How close did you get to watch? Thinking binoculars would be a plus.

I was one of the camera boats last year for the TTBC so I may have a different outlook. The biggest problem I had being a camera boat was all of the other people trying to follow the pros. At times it could be a huge cluster$%&^! It was like some folks lost their ability to safely drive a boat, jockeying for position, cutting each other off. It wasn't like this all the time but there was several times I was just left scratching my head and trying not to get hit myself. I'm not saying don't do it...I guess I'm just saying if you do be ready and be careful.

So wear my full face racing helment? I hate getting into that kind of traffic with idiots at the helm. Maybe just wait till their gone and follow later and find them when they get spread out a little. Going hopefully to enjoy this and come back with my boat in one piece!!

I was about 20-30 yards away, pretty close most of the time. I stayed behind him so as not to ruin water he was heading toward to fish. But I never got close enough to disturb or affect his fishing.

I've never really been a fan of the whole spectator boat thing . Kinda ridiculous in my opinion. I say leave them alone and let them fish . I sure as heck would rather go fishing than follow someone around and watch them fish . But this is just my opinion .

Agree 100%. It's not like you're at a concert and pay to see them. The boats are nothing more than a nuisance that is hurting their job. They always thank the fans because it's the right thing to do but deep down, you know they would rather you give them some space and lay off. I have respect for people working. I watch it on TV.

I think with some of them it fires them up if the boats keep a safe distance off and they are catching them good. They have people cheering for them when they catch big fish! As for me, I would like to be out there but be careful as not all know what they are doing or how to follow safe boating rules on a normal day let alone in that situation.

20 or 30 yds is way to close! Give them some space!
