I will be listing my boat for sale today or tomorrow. I am just running through the checklist of what I think needs to be done.
So far I have all boat paperwork, motor test, TPWD forms put together.
Was wondering if anyone can just give me any additional pointers on sale. I do still have a current boat payment, but will pay balance off with money from sale. Is this normal?
Any help or pointers would me much appreciated.
Boat will be a 2012 Nitro Z-7. Tandem-Axle, Dual Power-Poles, Ratchet Cover, Extended Warranty, and more.
Let know me.
Thanks,
Brandon

Yes its normal. I would request the buyer meet you at his bank and do a wire transfer with a banker to your bank showing payoff. But if you owe less than the asking price have the buyer agree in writing to the selling price before hand with the banker present. You'd be surprised how many will renig an offer or lowball once they find out you're pocketing $3-4k.

The easiest way is to pay off the note and get a clear title before selling. I realize this is not always possible with boat prices higher than I paid for my first house. Without clear title you will have to go to the bank and possibly on a weekday. I bought my son a used vehicle from an individual that did not have clear title. I had everything worked up where we did not have to go to the bank but the seller insisted. The ladies banker confirmed that all was on the up and up. It would have been a little easier if I had just used Chase for the whole deal but then I would have had to do it on a weekday.

Chances are, the bank (or whatever financing you have) is holding the original titles to the boat and to the motor. My suggestion is that you call the bank and get instructions on how to handle it. Also, remember that you need to provide a bill of sale to the buyer. Go to the TPWD website for info on details required on the bill of sale. I believe there is a form you can print from the website. Generally, it should give details from titles on the boat, motor and trailer. Each should be listed separately, with price for each one. The TPWD will use the info for boat and motor, and the buyer's county tax assessor office will need to see the price paid for the trailer. Of course, the bill of sale should be signed by the same owners shown on your titles, dated and also have lines for buyers names. I would also suggest putting "Sale is AS IS" if that is the case.

Have him bring a cashiers check made out to you and the bank. then you both go to the bank, hand the check to your lending officer, sign the title over to him and wish him the best of luck with his new ride.
