200 miles out in an 18' boat. Not a good idea. You need to find a buddy with a bigger boat for that adventure. Or, tow your boat to Venice and hit closer deep water on a calm day.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Greetings from OK What about going out in a blue water sailboat for a few days and fishing off the back transom, or towing your boat out there for the serious fishing? I have a trailerable blue water sailboat which has some 5,000 miles or more ocean time on it. Would you consider teaming up with someone for a trip? I am wanting to retire and do some serious fishing, but lack the knowledge for ocean fishing. Thanks Ray in OK

I would like to see a big ocean going sail boat out there but honestly I haven't seen any boats like that on grand isle maybe have to launch from a different boat ramp. What is the length of your vessel?

Sleeping: 1, don't turn your motors off when off shore. . . ever. 2, you sleep on one side of the center console. 3, you have a partner who is awake. 200 miles out: twin 150's should burn about. . . "About" 1 gallon - 1.5 gallons per mile in gulf coast seas, on a bay boat hull. You said you did a 100 mile trip and came back and had 1 gallon left. . . You do the math here.
My best opinion on this is you will need to take a volleyball, and a go pro, and film a new version of Tom Hanks "Castaway". You might make it out 200 miles, but you aint comin in.
(after reading everything you've wrote, im not sure if Im supposed to take you seriously. . . 8oz of oil left in an engine that takes 6 qts????)

It can certainly be done. Idle your boat in the Port A. channel till you see a freighter heading out. Simply pull up behind him and tie on. Saves a ton on gas.

No I'm sorry I have been the last 2 years in my 18 ft center console this year i have q new boat I have a 25 ft seacat. My new boat holds 158 gallons 17 gph at 25 knots in good weather 2 miles per gallon will get me 300 miles with 8 gallons left over. My new boat holds 7 gallons of 2 stroke oil. My old boat held 2.5 gallons and I almost ran out. For all you people that like to think you will never make it past the jetti try to explain how I made it out to this boat on 3 different occasions. The name of the boat is deep water invictus. 40 miles offshore. Look at the water. I was trolling. My boat only holds 50 gallons. If you pick the right day you can cut all the way to cancun on 150 gallons you just gotta have WEVOS!
