I guess no more than a couple hundred(?) Like I said I am pretty oblivious as to what my money will get me. The truth is I just want to find some submerged brush and crappie. I normally don't fish with electronics but when fish are not near shallow structure I am at a loss as to how to find them. Thanks again

Here is an excellent choice for$199.99 at BPS.The Elite-4HDI has built in GPS and The Elite-4xHDI without GPS is less. This one is a chartplotter

I have the one shown above one on my kayak and its perfect. The transducer on these HDI units is pretty wide compared to previous models, so you may have to get creative unless you're mounting inside the hull. As a yaker, I am kind of partial to the Lowrance brand, with the Elite 4 or 5 being my best choices. I have found that the 4 inch screen on the 4 is good and is easy to see and operate from the seat and the 5 is even better, from a view standard. The Elite 3 for about $100, offers a lot from a bang for the buck perspective, but the 3 inch screen would be a little hard to make out for my old eyes.

For finding brush & crappie fishing GPS will be more valuable than you would think, in a small depth finder?

I just bought the Elite 4 HDI Combo that is on sale at BP for $199 for my kayak. One of the things I think you would like is the downscan option. I have a HDS model with downscan on my large boat and almost never use regular sonar anymore.

This item is marked down $100 because Lowrance has introduced a new model with a faster processor....but that isn't needed on a kayak. Having GPS will be helpful if you ever fish in a place where you find underwater structure and you want to go back to the same spot on a later date....allows you to go directly without having to search around.
