Hey guys, just wanted to ask what would be a good fish finder for the trolling motor. I currently have a motorguide 82 lb foot control. I have a 18.5 Cajun center console. Another idea I had was to add a transducer to the front and just swap my 997 back and forth. Really want to try and go after crappie a little more this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Switching back and forth can be a pain sometimes. Best o get a unit that is compatible with the one you have now so you can network or link them and share way points. It is much easier to mark them when you are driving and then you can go to the bow when your ready and move to the spot you marked. With switching you have to turn the unit off, take it off the mount, put it on another mount up front, hook it up, turn it on and wait. Much better to move seats and just start fishing! Also you may want to consider if the your trolling motor is compatible with the sonars. Some TM you can manage from your sonar to help trolling and following routes. Good luck.

Here is my take on it. If you want to go after Crappie,I would have a Console unit networked to a bow unit, and a separate unit for the troll motor. The Ideal scenario would be to use the console and bow unit to scan for structure and the troll unit to pinpoint and Mark.Make sure you troll unit has Down Imaging. Maby someone else will add their insight.

Agree with Bonz. I want my unit and WPTs separate. Otherwise they are ~20' from your transom. We did similar comparisons on price etc. Check out the new Helix 5 from David (Shut up & Fish). Can't beat it for price and resolution. You will need to swap out the transom ducer for TM transducer through Humminbird, which is +~$65. Just bought one.
Good luck!
