so I've got an old ugly stick that I got from dad when he passed away and was looking for a new one for cat fishing, so I went to Cabelas (I work there) and saw the Big Water pole and thought "that looks like it might hold up to some good size cats" was just wandering if anyone has ever used these to catfish with and if so how did you like it, I also picked up a Shimano Cardiff 400a to go with it spooled with 75lb power pro hi vis yellow braid, took it out and caught a couple of channels, really liked it, so I was just wandering from some of the more experienced fellas/gals on here how they liked it, thanks in advance

If it's working for you and you are enjoying it, that's all that matters. We all can recommend our favorite rods but if you find something that works for you, stay with it.

I have used nothing but ugly sticks for many years now. Have never had one break. Had a lot of line snapped but never an ugly stick.

You will not like the big water rods. They are way too stiff. Go with the Catfish Ugly Stiks...soft tip and plenty of back bone to land 100lb class fish. I will be selling about 30 pretty soon....to make room for the 30 new ones,

Use what works for you and do not let anyone tell you what you need! Everyone is different!

I use the big water for surf fishing, and drift fishing. To be honest, I use that rod for big gars. It is a little stiff for soft bites. But, I use the ugly stick cat rod and they ugly sticks medium action rods for cats. I like the tip action, helps to detect the soft bite. I have 12 ugly sticks. From the ultra lite to the big water. One of them I bought in 1985 and still catching fish.
