Haven't heard anything about that lake in a long, long time
At one point it was a great place to fish for several species

Finding close lodging may be a big problem.

Everybody keeps saying there's no place to stay near the lake. That's just not true. Maybe not enough for a champs tournament which may also no longer be true with cuts in oilfield. The state park cabins are almost always available and cheap.
I've heard fishing has been tough for years since water dropped. There's still quite a few 10+ fish in the lake. You gotta know how to target them.
I believe the oilfield is mostly responsible for the dropped and sustained low water levels. Same as Ivie. They need to stop that. Amistad, Falcon and Choke all have unique situations. All dropped water levels drastically and all suck for fishing ever since. For Choke I think the key lacking ingredient is grass and cover in the water for the fish to thrive. For the lake to be able to make a comeback which will take 4-5yrs, need the water to come back up. Plain and simple.

I believe the record drought we have been in for the last 4 years is responsible for the dropped and sustained low water levels.

No way, it can't be the drought! That's just crazy talk. You are telling me that the small choke watershed hasn't received enough rain the past few years and the lake has dropped? Shocker....

I have not fished there in 2 years, but used to fish it a lot. You can still get on the lake, There are several options. Here is a link of a map: https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/choke_canyon/access.phtmlAs far as the fishing goes, people I know that still fish there say it is still pretty slow, mostly smaller fish being caught but always a chance at a trophy. Be careful out there, not only is there a lot of wood in the water there are still a lot of old fence post, wells, etc that can ruin your day of fishing.

I fished Choke a few times last year, all ramps were open even with low water. Lots more hazards and stick ups but the fish are there just got to work harder for them. Now that oil prices have dropped and the oilfield is grinding to a stand still, every lake in TX will fill back up? Is that what trogge is saying? Really? We need rain, lots of rain!
I am not making any decisions until the bourbon kicks in!
