I fished PK Tuesday and Wednesday this week in Neely Slough down by the dam. Didn't catch any stripers worthy of note. Caught a few of the 2013 stocked fish and they are now in the 17 inch range and very fat. I measured them pretty close but couldn't stretch one to 18 inches. The water temperature in Neely Slough really surprised me as it was 50 degrees at the Cliffs ramp. A huge school of threadfins were hanging out in the shallows and were very visible in the clear water. I guess they were soaking up the heat while they could. I went out in the main lake around Gaines Bend but there were very few fish there. Water temp in the main lake was 48 deg. If I had it to do over again I would have gone up on the North side of the Peninsula. This post is primarily for info for anyone going fishing up there.
The fish I caught were caught on minnows fished under slip bobbers. I had some new Dead stick jigs from Moes I wanted to try but the large schools of fish were in the slough in thick cover suspended from 20-35 feet deep and I didn't want to lose my jigs.. One of the really odd things I noticed is that I would often get a bite with the bobber pulled under and then released. I suspect that the fish think the shiner is a shad and spit him out once they find out he's not shad. has anyone ever seen this before?
I finally quit around noon Friday when the wind picked up. I noticed huge clouds of cedar pollen coming of the tree on the hills. It looked like the place was on fire. Looks like Pk will have good weather late next week but I'm going to stay away until wind or rain knock that cedar pollen down.

That's one of the reasons I made the post. I didn't catch much and wanted anyone to know it was tough down lake and that the pollen was very bad.

I am headed out there tomorrow, and plan to start on the north side of the peninsula. We will be fishing this weekend and next, and will post results.

Rick: If you have any allergy to Cedar Pollen you better bring some meds with you. Cedar Pollen is unreal at PK right now.
I look forward to your report. Let me know what the water temp looks like on the North side of Costello Island.

Were the eyes missing from the shiners after the bobber went under?

For the pollen, try local honey 1 tsp per day. I swear by it. It fixed me but I think it's 20% placebo. Abilene use to slam me until I started that. Don't know where to get local honey at PK area though. It has to be collected local to be effective. A weird thing happened here when we had the 2 warm days the hybrids started feeding top water. After catching a few 19-20 inch fish I decided the hybrids fight harder than the stripers.

Lucky for me, I don't have any issues with the pollen. My brother in law, who has lived there most of his life has a horrible time with it.

Well Joe, I may just do that. I can't go back to PK until we get a big rain to knock all that cedar pollen down. I think I'll just have to wait for spring. That said, the next good warm day I want to go see if I can find some crappie or Stripers on Texoma. Surely something is biting.

No Nichols. Just had lots of scales knocked off. I saw on the crappie forum people were saying the bite was lazy this week. Maybe it was just the nice blue bird day. It was great to be on the water in a dead calm with temps in the upper seventies. Would have been even better if the fish would cooperate. Had lots of them under the boat. I set both depth finders to chip on the three fish setting and they constantly chirped all day. The minnow had the bobbers dancing like they were about to be taken but I got few bites.

Dr:Hart:I see that top water action quite a bit in Neely Slough in the winter from my Balcony. It's usually a morning or evening thing. I've caught them in the past when they were doing that. lately, there has been very little top water action in the morning, but my fish finder tells me that large numbers of fish and shad are there.
I guess the stripers are on strike until March.

Fishing has been slow, slow. We have managed 30 fish, thanks to a friends dock light. The fish we have caught on the main lake during the day have been at 47-50 ft. Dead stick and small moves have been the best. I will try to post pictures on Monday. Big females at night, and mostly males during the day. I would like to know where the girls are spending the day.
