Scenario,
I went to the lake the other day and my lower unis trashed . Call my agent and he said my deductible went up to 3k as opposed to the $500 that it was a couple years before . I look on my yearly statement and it does show it . Shouldn't I have gotten a notice , letter , email? This frustrates me to know end and I feel I am being done wrong . Can someone explain how this is ethical ?

I had a similar issue with my RV. I damaged the awning backing into my storage space and it has to be replaced to the tune of $1300. State Farm did not cover it, even with my deductible, because they said I needed a rider for the awning to be covered, even though it came from the factory as standard equipment. By that rationale, I suppose I need a rider to cover the bumper on my truck.
They also charged me $300 a year to insure a $9,000 boat. When I bought my current boat, I went through Bob Luellen and got three times the coverage for half the price. State Farm may be O on cars, but their other coverage SUCKS. As soon as a fault accident goes away, I'm moving everything I have to another carrier. State Farm, never again.

As long as you got notice, it is what it is, the way it should have been handled by your agent is a phone call at renewal before you sustained a loss and found out the hard way that it was covered, but nothing payable as I presume the damage is below 3k? That radical change in the policy ded going from $500 to $3k you would have gotten a call from me, that's for sure.

Was with SF for 27 years- homes, autos, boats. Did some shopping around last year and muc cheaper rates. Gave my SF agent chance to beat them. They couldnt and then did nothing to keep my business. I left. A year later now, they are asking for my business back. I tell like it is every time they call.

+1 Good luck on even being able to use it. I tried to file a claim with State Farm for damage on my RV awning and was told I needed a separate rider for it to be covered even though it was original factory equipment. I hope nothing happens to the bumpers on my truck since they are not insured separately.

I had SF for a couple years and decided to change. I cancelled my policies and they are sending me a bill for the entire years premium. I will never use them again. That is bad business and shouldn't be legal.

by law they have to refund any unused premiums if you have prepaid a policy, if you cancel just before payment is due then you owe nothing.

My State Farm agent calls me in for an annual review of all my coverages and usually has suggestions that lower my premium

I have Farmers(Foremost) through Dillon Lee. I had a lower unit claim last year and a phone call and some pics from Plano Marine and all was good. Didn't get a premium increase on the renewal either.
