Kirk, I've never kept a detailed record, but the full moon has the most effect, usually in March, April and October.

Lane, thanks for the addition of habitat data. Confirms that I need to put out more.....brush or PVC? Is there a preference?

Roy, I personally prefer natural brush. I've seen both attract fish, I just feel like natural works better.

Thanks Lane for your comments. I have a bunch of PVC given to me, so need to get it in the lake. Then I will find some "natural" brush.

tks,
roy

A positive effect, or negative effect?

CedarCreekWoody, I notice that the fish tend to do more eating on a clear, full moon night. Sometimes making them a little tougher to catch during the day.

Thanks Lane. I wasn't sure what effect the moon would have.

I agree Laner, in fact, I typically fish early morning, on the lake by first light. Except for days just before and after a full moon. You might as well stay home till later in the morning and even better in the afternoon. The crappie seem to feed more at night and then again mid day.
I'd like to see more info in your log on a daily basis, this is great info! I've started it a few times but, end up forgetting after a trip or two. Especially barometric pressure. Wind, water and air temps and anything else would be great too.
Thanks a lot for the effort and sharing it with everyone Lane!

Thanks for the informative post lane! do you keep track of barometric pressure and how it affects the daily fish report?
do you have a daily log with weather data and fishing depth notes? I could make up a nice chart for you that would break it down to a nice visual; if you are interested, pm me.

I used to keep a very detailed log, but I don't have the time to anymore. Between guiding six days a week, making/shipping jigs and trying to spend a couple minutes with family, I just don't keep a log anymore. With that being said, I also don't pay as much attention to the weather anymore. I may look at wind direction to plan out my week and which brush piles to hit on which days, but I never look at barometric pressure. I used to get much more involved in weather forecasts, but then I realized I had to go fishing no matter what the pressure/weather was doing, so I just stopped looking.

The number one factor that will lead to us catching more fish is time on the water. Books, charts, weather forecasts, seminars and forums are all very helpful tools, but only by spending more time on the water will we catch more fish.
