Ok fellas, I trust you guys to provide the right path. We lost our house to a fire back in October. Bad deal but God is good and so is my insurance. We are building a house our in Wylie area and so I now have the choice between 2 lakes within 8 minutes of the house. Thus far I have housed my boat in Ray Roberts. It has been great but was an hour drive. I am excited to be near 2 lakes but do not know what lake is going to be the best for us??? Ray Hubbard or Lavon??? I love to crappie fish and white bass are alway fun at RR. Also big on Jug fishing the cats. Im really torn here. Any opinions from you guy would be much appreciated.

Lavon is fishable even in higher winds...high winds on Ray Hubbard = nasty quick.

I used to live in Murphy years ago...fished Lavon 95% of the time.

I would go with Lavon. Lavon and Ray Roberts are my two favorite area lakes (even though I slip at Grapevine due to convenience). I like the fact that these lakes have buffer lakes between them and the the metroplex. It seems Lewisville and Ray Hubbard absorb most of the idiots and leave Ray Bob and Lavon a little safer and a better place to fish. My theory could be way off, but I'm sticking with it cool

We crappie fished Lavon back in the day and always enjoyed it. There are areas of the lake that are stumpy and made for fishing boats and then wide open water by the dam for the pleasure boats.

Not sure what the Lake level is on Lavon (sure it's low as well) right now but Hubbard looks horrible driving over the GB Bridge.

Get a slip at Collin Park and you won't be disappointed. I think that Lavon would be your best choice (closest also) due to your fishing wants. It is a great crappie lake and catfish lake. There are a bunch of people on the docks that will help you out. I have recently heard that there is a ramp open, but I haven't used it. My buddy has a 22' pontoon at Collin Park. Send me a PM if you have any specific questions about Collin Park.

You may be able to get it in now that the low level ramp at Little Ridge is open again after the upgrades were completed last week. I've always heard Lavon was great for sandies and crappie. I used to catch a ton of sandies with my dad when I was kid just fishing from the bridges. Now that I have a yak, I plan on getting out there more since it's easier than trying to get a full size boat in. You may want to call the COE and ask if a 22ft pontoon could be launched from there.

The launch at Little Ridge is gravel and one lane, but the work done on it looks good. You might very well be able to launch the pontoon there.
