I am new to fly fishing, and I recently took the fly fishing class at Cabela’s. The Class was great and I highly recommend going to a fly fishing class if your new to the sport. I am going to be fishing at stocked ponds around my area and fishing for bass and crappie. I am wondering before I go buy a lot of flys for bass or crappie…..which ones are the best? I have heard “Poppers” are good, but I have not heard anything about fishing dry or wet flys. Any input would be helpful.

Chartreuse and white clouser works more often than not on LMB. Always the first fly on when they aren't hitting on top.
Now will be very tough, give it about 3 more weeks till pre-spawn starts.

These are excellent and produced by a local tyer

PM me I can probably make that happen.
I have some black with gold flash tied up and some purple and white with crystal flash.
Just a warning on the backcast - don't get excited, when these are wet they will literally smash your face in. 10wt or nothing.

Those would be awesome in a bluegill pattern for the spawn.

C'mon man lonestar you know by now I flyfish in the dark lol. I have long learned my lesson on smashing my face with a fly. Also I'm talking about all in one fly a cross of a blue fleck and electric grape power worm that ate a black and blue jig just a little blck to blend in the dark blue and purple. I know it's full I'll send you a pm when I get back from this quail hunt.

One question that hasn't been asked is what size rod do you have? Some of the flies listed will be very difficult to cast with a 5 wt.

I see that you are in Howe. Here's an invitation to come up to Sherman next Tuesday for the Red River Fly Fishers meeting at 7:00 at Gander Mtn. We could spend some time discussing fly options after that meeting.
