Been fishing Champs for years, fishing Amistad all my life, but couldn't get a bite! Any of you bring some in? What does it take to catch a fish there these days? It's a completely different lake now.

I hear what you are saying as I have fished Amistad since the 80's as well, it fishes as a totally new lake....several had the same results as you did Saturday. There were 167 teams and only 14 limits brought to the scales and my partner Ryan and I were very proud to have one of those 5 fish limits and receive a check.

Debra cool

We threw that a-rig half the day with no results. Congrats to you. Amistad is certainly a challenge!

The a-rig has certainly attributed to most of the success over the past couple years. But only a small percentage of those that throw it have taken the time to learn how to best throw it. What baits work best. And have truly put in the hours and lost many hundreds of dollars in equipment to trees in rock in the process. Finding fish is half the battle then actually catching them just as difficult. It's not easy. Gotta put in your time and work hard. Don't tell that to the guys that won champs yesterday. smile I heard one partner hadn't been on the lake in 3yrs and the other had never. Sometimes the planets just line up. That's fishing. Congrats to them and all those that caught a limit yesterday. Wasn't easy.

I was down there in August for platinum, first day of practice I caught 3 fish on one spot. Next 3 days, zero, nada. Not a nibble. Nothing.

With the past few years and dramatic changes to the lake you need to learn it over again. Can't keep going to the same spots as he did for years. Time to change and hunt a little bit more. Fortunately the lakes only five miles so were out often. Everyday is different, been here since the mid 80's and more difficult than ever. 94 blanks yesterday, we had eight bites caught five of them. And also a five fish limit for a check. Extremely difficult. Today five hours more learning checking different areas nada.

We were one of the fortunate teams to score a limit and even got the cull up, we did lose 1 fish and it cost us a pound, it is always a privilege for me to fish with Donnie O'Neal, he is a incredible fisherman and Even a better man, It was a great weekend, wish we could have gotten a few in that came unbuttoned but very blessed to catch the fish we did, I am willing to bet you will see the numbers come up when March comes around, Really looking forward on getting back out there on this beautiful body of water

The A rig is great, but right now on Amistad its all about location I believe, fish arent everywhere like they use to be.
