Got out on the lake a little late at about 2 p.m.. Air temp: 70's, water temp, 49, light winds out of the south at about 3-5 knots. Launched at Chandler's and went straight to Robertson Park point. Marked fish 1-2 feet off the bottom in 26 feet of water. Even drifted all the way across both dropoffs and the flats in between but could not find any takers. Then I broke out the binocs and spotted gulls feeding on the eastern shore. Headed off that way and converged on the gulls with 5 other boats that came from all different directions...it seemed we all spotted the birds at the same time from different places on the lake and all came rushing over! Anyway, boatshow ensued as we all hauled 'em in. Caught a dozen or so before some joker in a small center console came roaring in on plane right into the middle of the school. He calmly cut his engine and started fishing while we all stared in disbelief. Of course the bite immediately shut down. Anyway, the gulls dispersed but soon started feeding several hundred yards to the south. The boatshow went that way but I continued to drift slowly north towards Chandler's. Good choice. Gulls soon started feeding about 300 yards straight out from the marina and I was already set up for a perfect drift. Hauled in another dozen or so good sized whites & no dinks! When that shut down the gulls moved a little further north still, right off the point just north of Chandler's. I fired up the big engine and at that point my water pump went out on me. Luckily I was able to limp back under electric power into the marina which was only a couple hundred yards away. I was off the water by 5 p.m.. All fish caught on a generic 1 oz. white slab bumbed up and down off the bottom in 26-28 feet of water. I was surprised it was so good today. The weather just seemed too nice. Just goes to show you never know until you try. Here's a pic of the first school. Nice backdrop of million dollar homes!

Which boat were you in? I left Chandler's and had these fish to myself for a while and never left the area. Several large sandbass, under sized hybrids and a couple of legal hybrids. All fish released. Plenty of fish out there for a hand full of boats.
The two old guys in the boat on the right kept running the big engine through the fish. I guess the trolling motor on their bow was only for looks.

We went out Tuesday, weather was perfect. Did not see any action at Chandlers, but went to the sail boat marina on east shore towards dam. There were tons of birds, and fish on the sonar, they just werent interested in what we threw at em. Maybe jiggin a spoon or jig up and down off of the bottom may of worked..Seems like the better the weather, the less fish we catch!

Hi fishnwindsurf. Yep, it was the two old guys I was referring to in my post. They are on the far right in my pic. You'd think two old-guy fishermen would know better! Are you in that pic? You weren't in that sweet center console Skeeter I saw, were you? I was in the 80's vintage tan BassTracker V-17 with my six-year-old son. I took up my position on the outside of the schools on the lake side...further out from shore than the rest of the boats. Like you did, I shoulda just stayed around Chandler's instead of wasting my time over at Robertson Park first. Nothin' doin' over there. But you're right: the fishing was quite good and we *almost* had the lake to ourselves! Not sure but some of my fish might have been undersized hybrids. I throw them all back so I don't look that carefully. They were mostly all in the 1-2 pound range with the biggest running maybe 3 pounds.

That's me in the skeeter... center of your pic. I left Chandlers as you were putting in and the birds were working just south. My plan was to hit Red Barn first but I never left the Chandlers Cove area. Ruben and Superduck showed up late and reported that Red Barn didn't produce so I'm glad I saved the fuel.
At least 50% of my catch were hybrids so you probably had a mix as well. Especially if you were fishing deep.
Give me a shout if we are on the same fish out there.

No boys stay by Chandlers, fished this AM 12-14 and no action south by the dam. Caught 8 nice sandbass in this same spot (Chandlers) around 10:30 AM. The PM bite seems to be much better. Nice to chat with you fishnwindsurf. Planning on hitting RH on Sunday.
Why do people run the big engine in 14 ft of water with zero wind and birds going NUTS?
Good Luck

Hi fishnwindsurf, Sounds like you had a fun outing with lots of fish and minimal traffic. Just wanted to say hi and let you know for grins that the G3/Yammi is doing great. It's done well for me at Ray Roberts, Joe Pool, Lake Worth, and the old home lake at Benbrook - - lots of sandies and some nice hybrids too. Maybe I'll get it to Ray Hubbard next summer. Wish the photo had a bit more zoom on your Skeeter CC - - sounds nice! Take care.

Please excuse the off topic post.
Hey Scott,
I thought about you at Thanksgiving since we traded emails over the holiday last year. Sounds like the G3 is working for you. That boat has landed many good fish. You can't beat that 4 stroke Yamaha... especially when fuel went to $3 a gallon.
The Skeeter has been doing the job for me and I put a 12lb striper on the deck the first trip out in it. I just got a new Lowrance GPS/Sonar unit yesterday and hope to give it a try this afternoon.
Best of luck with the G3 and keep in touch,
Doug
