Just got back home...Fished Newmans Bottom from 10:30-6:30... Had to work hard for them, but managed 16 keeper whites 11'-15' all males...Had only 1 throw-back barely 10", and lost 3 keepers(I'm guessing in the 11" range) right out the bank All fish were caught on a 1/8th oz. yellow jig-head with a yellow 2" curly tail grub, bounced slowly off the bottom...And were all caught from the main bridge by parking lot to the (BigT-what I call it),or basically close to were I believe Ben and others put there Kayaks in...Never made it farther down stream... Also, 4 of the keepers+ the 3 I lost off the bank and the 1 throwback were caught from 5:30 to 6:30 from the high bridge just downstream to the first inlet to the little feeder creek Will try to post pics of fish tomorrow, if I can find my Digital camera

Way to go Fishingfool40. Wish I could head back to the creek but just had a hernia repaired at Thursday. The surgeon said it was the size of a softball, so it will be two or three more weeks before I can even think about going, so I will have to watch this site for now and life off of what you all are catching.

Has anyone fished at the spillway at Lake Somerville lately? I've noticed that they have the gate opened for the last week or so. I was curious to see if there are anything action with the water temperature being cold and if there are any action below there.

Jerdell Creek looked fishy on Saturday. There was definitely a slow current flowing out into the lake, water was cloudy but not muddy. Lots of dead shad, individuals, floating along in the current. Caught one nice catfish but there might have been crappie. It's tough fishing with all the brush on either side and sticks and brush under the water. Plenty of water in that creek though.

I haven't heard, but with the rain that is expected tonight and tomorrow (2+ inches) I bet the outflow will be raised a lot. The ground is saturated so any new rain is going to flood the creeks and the lake. Will be great for the white bass run in the long term, but will make for fast muddy water the next 10 days or so.

Thanks for the report Fishingfool40. Has the water cleared up any? The water color was still muddy, from what I would consider.Basically, being I could only see my jig or the action of my curly-tail 2 or 3 inches from the surface. But there was at least a good water flow... Also I didn't catch my first fish till about 1:00, after the sun finally broke about noon. Then I worked that same 50' area for another hour to catch 3 more... Went back to car to eat a sandwich and have something cold to drink. And at that point I was thinking of going to Nails Creek, but after stopping by the 125 bridge at Nails creek on the way to Newmans Bottom and not seeing much water flow...I decided I'd walk all the way down stream to the pipes, and work my way back upstream. But fortunately never made it that far, being I decided to try an area right before the low water crossing. And wound-up catching a fish within the first 2 or 3 casts. So I stuck with that area for about 2 or more hours to catch 7 more... Like I said before, I work hard making a lot of casts in every spot I tried.Especially in the spots I thought I might have just a slight pick-up or finally hook into one.... Still not sure if these were fish that had moved up from the last big rains when the water was up 3 or 4 feet(what it seemed anyhow from some debree lines) or had moved up recently. But either way, I know there is still some more fish there being I know I didn't catch them all Especially catching 8 more (3 lost and 1 throwback) right before dark just 100' down from the bridge at the parking lot.And I'd worked that area real good earlier without a bite... Anyway, I never could find my digital camera...So I guess everyone will just have to take my word on the fish I caught with no pics May try again next week if still not working, and we can get 2 or 3 days of sunshine with lows no less than 40 degrees and highs 60+ degrees...Which looks like maybe next Wednesday or Thursday, if the predicted forecast is right

Great information Fishingfool40, thanks for sharing.
Spec Chaser, I have been interested in what is going on below the dam as well. The lake got up over a foot high in May of 2014. That was first time it reached full pool level since the drought of 2011. Water was released for a couple weeks at around 1000 cfs. It still wasn't enough time or flow to really pull all the bait fish up to the spillway. From what I learned, considering those conditions it would have taken a minimum of 1500 CFS for two to three weeks before the fishing would have gotten good. The dam was cracked open on 1/6/15, but hasn't flowed more than around 685 CFS since it opened. Maybe someone can give us a report.

Fishingfool did well to get them while he could. With the rain we're getting today it'll probably shut things down on the creeks for another week or so.

My rain gage shows close to two inches. With the ground so saturated, all of this rain will reach the creeks. I think my wish of fishing the big bridge area is coming true.

The lake receded to 239.1 ft this morning. Substantial rains have the lake on the rise again though. Current level is 239.25. Releasing 665 CFS.

All, Newman's was closed today due to the road flooding from the local rains. It will remain closed until the flooding in the Yegua Creek subsides, whenever that might be. Like fishytx said the Irwin Bridge area might be the spot to go in a week or so. This is shaping up to be one of those epic white bass runs.

Thanks for the info 'bass related'. This really is perfect timing for the flooding. At the beginning of the run as opposed to the very end. It's shaping up to be a great couple months of fishing.
