What is the best baitcasting reel for long distance casting? I want something somewhat reasonably priced. At least under $150 dollars. I mostly fish for catfish.

I don't think you could go wrong with an abu garcia 6500c3, I don't know how much difference in price/performance a 6600 or maybe a 7000 is though

It depends on what kind of rod you are using. abu 6500 is good on 8 to 10 foot rods. if you are bank fishing or using really long surf rods in the 14 to 15 foot range you would want something the size of an abu 7000. i have a lamiglass 15 foot rod and i can spool a 6500 (cast it to the end of the line) with 30lb test. just my $.02! i would go with an abu either way.

I'd look into a penn squall....idk many people that use them but I do. And i swear by them..I have one of the bigger models. It's a sql30lw. But I go big or go home. I use 250# braid and i can cast one hell of a distance even with that thick of line. I can't imagine how far you could chuck a line if it were braid under 100# and i use rods that are between 7 and 8ft for my 2 squalls.

I use use a shinmano corvalus 400 for long range its a beast.its very similar to a Calcutta but way cheaper. 7# 11 all-star flipping frog rod.

I use abu 6500 I can cast about 213 foot with a 2 0unce lead and heavy bait

I have 4 of the shimano Corvallis 400's on PA Tex rods and and some 6500 c3's on the same rods 2 of them are super tuned by Fred. With 2 oz weights the Fred's reels win hands down, but you put a 3 oz on and the corvalus will rise to the top.

My Abu 6600c4 outcasts my 6500C3's and my Abu Record, they are all great reels
