I have a 2005 4-stroke 225 HP Mercury. Fish salt water mostly. Use the easy flush adapter near cowling of the boat every time after each trip. Should I crank the motor everytime also during the flushing process. Merc owners manual only mentions flushing using flush adapter with motor turned off. I have not found anything in the manual about having the motor running while flushing. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you using the clamps that clamp to the water inlet holes? i have been told yes to crank up the motor each time. when you do the water flows through the motor better.

No, not using clamps with suction cups on the lower unit for flushing. Just using the fresh water adapter near the cowling of the motor.

If you run it just using the hose adaptor on the powerhead, you'll burn up your water pump, because it's not getting water to it.
