I am looking at a used pontoon boat with a Tracker trailer...the trailer looks to be in good shape but the axle appears to be bowed (the center of the axle is higher than it is at the outer frame). This seems to be the opposite of what would occur during normal or heavy loading...the current owners have recently replaced the trailer tires. My question is is this normal for a single axle trailer on a 21 foot rig or is it a sign of trouble?
Thanks and tight lines!

Maybe that's why the owner replaced the tires, something could be wrong with the axle. I've never seen and axle on a trailer bent up. On good way to check is raise the trailer and get the load off the wheels to see if they will bow in or out. If it bows in or out, you will be changing tire as time goes by..

sounds like the trailer has been high centered and it will cause tires to wear on outside edges fast.

Bubba, and fool are correct. Try jacking the trailer up and freely spinning the wheels and axle, to see how bad the bend is. If it is a very slight wobble, it's not a HUGE deal, but you will be replacing tires pretty often. If it is a huge wobble, beware and consider a new axle. Check prices and see if replacing tires once or thrice a year, vs. a new axle is more productive. Good luck.

Axles are not that expensive....and if it does not have brakes..pretty easy to change...I do not know what a 21' pontoon boat weighs but a boat of that size on a single axle trailer would make me check a few things out...if the boat and motor weigh near the weight capacity of the trailer you could have a reoccuring problem with the axle...either way I would ask the current owner to repair it or at least deduct the cost from the sales price....
