I have a 86 skeeter SD 80. Not sure what happened to my steering but when I turn the steering wheel it does not move the motor just clicks. Thought about replacing the steering mechanism and cable. I do not what size I will need. Are they different if I get the proper length?

The motor clicks? Or does it click under the console behind the steering wheel? Yes, you must get the right length.

I have rack and pinion steering on suffered similar problems a few years ago. I had to take all the steering wheel and everything else out of the dash, then disconnect the motor. In my case I had to pull the motor off due to too short of distance from the motor to where the cable went into the hull. After I got it out, measure the length and go to a dealer and get the proper length. Can you turn the motor by hand? Something is seized and that may be the cable or the motor.

Get rid of rack and pinion. Go with Sea Star No feedback 4.2.

You don't need seastar on such small boat unless you got deep pockets ,go back with what you have ,the length should be stamped on your old cable near the end

My steering is not rack & pinion. What size is the nut on the steering cable?
