So a group of (non-fishing) friends planned a camping trip at Lake Conroe this weekend, and I thought with the warmer weather that I'd try my hand at getting a bass to bite a fly. Does anyone have any ideas for tactics? I'm assuming big, nasty streamers and some sinking line will be in my future. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! I'll have access to a kayak for some of the time, but will be landlocked for the majority.

A deep Clouser minnow in grey/white should produce fished slow. Beadhead wooly buggers should also produce in white or black.

IMHO...good advice from all of the above posts. Taking special note of SLOW.

Heavy craw pattern but fished on floating line will take longer to get down but will keep the line out of the fishes view. As stated slow right now. If you are lucky enough to find any hydrila left in conroe grass carp destroyed that fishery. Fish the edges of the grass pull the fly four inches wait ten to 15 seconds repeat. This time of year if I am dead sticking conventional I may wait as long as five min before moving the lure. That I an eternity but pays off with big bites. Main lake point channel swings and ledges should be holding fish right now. Are you going to be on the bank or boat ? You know where you are staying? If so I can post some screan shots of the area with one foot contours off my navionics card.
