Whats the better choice in your opinion a brand new bass tracker 190tx for $20,995 or a used bigger boat for about the same price?
Also whats the gas price difference in a 115 outboard and a 250 motor?
Coming from a tracker pro team 165 with a 25hp motor looking to upgrade. I'm all about the used bigger boats. It just makes fishing more enjoyable if you have more room and all of the bells and whistles. Here's what I did.... I got my $20K together and just waited for the right deal to come along. Get on the web sites and find exactly what you want. I was in a Ranger but didn't care what brand as long as it was one of the big boys that had a good reputation. What I've found was that the market is flooded with Skeeters out here where they are built. I got a top of the line '06 21 iClass for $20K fully loaded with a 300 hp Yamaha on it. Now that wasn't what he was asking but we were able to negotiate that price. The boat has been garaged kept every day of it's life, custom cover, maintenance records, yada, yada. To me, there's no comparison. Good luck! Getting a new boat is a great thing. Jackson

I debated the same question when I bought my boat in 2010. New=1st owner, warranty and knowing it was in great condition. Used=2nd or more owner, no warranty and not knowing if it was maintained or damaged, was it used too much or too litte? Along with many more questions. I bought new and will have the boat paid off in less than 2 months. Its a bit small but it still has many more years left in it. The warranty saved me money with getting the outboard worked on, fish finder, trolling motor cables, winch. Not worried about resale value or trade-in value it floats and moves on the water so I will keep it until it sinks. If I only planned to keep a boat for 1-3 years and trade-in/upgrade I might go used but if you plan to keep for 5+ years I would go new.

Another consideration, on a new boat, if you plan to finance, you can throw in a $2000 FF or two, a power pole or two, and only marginally add to your note. Personally I wanted a used boat but after looking at everything, I ended up with a brand new boat and couldn't be happier. To each his own!

Do you have to finance it or are you buying outright? I'd get the biggest newest thing money can buy within your budget, essentially. I looked at the trackers and they don't have anything currently that would make me truly happy. If they still sold the Avalanche I'd have towed one off a showroom floor. I was getting my first boat though and I've made a living turning wrenches before, so I just said whatever and got a cheap old bass boat for now and will likely get something different this summer or next depending on how life goes and how well this one holds up. So far it's been a joy, though the few minor issues from previous owner would've been overwhelming for someone without tools and sills to manage probably.
My boat is worth less than most guys dash units around here though it seems... but it does 40mph+ and it fishes, and it's smooth and dry across the lake. Can't complain. For what it's worth as well, as many new boat warranty issues as I see, I have to assume buying a new boat is at least as frustrating or more than a used one... a lightly used boat has had the gremlins worked out, a new one hasn't. They don't put these things together the way they put modern cars together. I'd almost RATHER someone put the first 40-100 hours or so on the boat just so I don't have to visit a dealer! Haha
