For retail this is kind of the black hole for sales. Christmas is over, black friday is a looooong way off. I'm sure its run just like other retail businesses these days, cut costs around every turn. Older experienced employees cost more $$, stocking too much inventory isn't cost effective. They actually embrace their online sales now. The only thing that matters is the growth in the profit margin.

They don't take care of their fish either. Most U healthy looking bass I've ever seen. I haven't seen the tanks in at Cabelas FW, but it is difficult to imagine any worse looking fish than in the tank at BPS on 288 in Houston. At some point, somebody needs to address the fact that many of these places do an exclusively poor job of caring for their animals. For many years I took care of a 60,000 gallon tank owned by an individual collector, and I'm certain at less than 1% of the money spent in these shops, and it looked absolutely AWESOME with fat, healthy fish. We got enough trouble with the AR types to have the places we shop not caring for the animals they own properly. From BPS, not Cabelas, but a buddy that once worked at one of their shops was fired over complaining the fish weren't being taken care of (he used to work for me, we take care of the fish we are responsible for). They told him, "We don't care about those fish, when they start looking bad we just get new ones." I wonder if those fish came from Texas waters and if they were paid for. It would be illegal for us to catch and keep alive, sport fish from state waters, we are obligated to ill and eat tem. If I were to take breeding stock from Texas waters for my hatchery, I'd have to pay for them, hence my collection trips to Florida. There I was told, "You can keep your fish alive and take them where you want as long as you by a fishing license and do not have more than your legal possession limit." We as consumers should force these people to care for their animals or not keep them on display.

You would be amazed at how willing to listen to your concerns these store managers are. Give them an opportunity to address your concerns rather than blasting them on here right away. They need and want your feedback. This is true of most any fishing related business as well. That may be true about Cabelas....not BPS....I've emailed them about 3-4 times about the poor service I've had at our local BPS.....never heard a word......That's why I usually buy on-line....

They say nothing at the time it happens then come here and start a post when they had the perfect oppurtunity to deal with it when it happens.

That's all fine and good...if you trying to resolve a problem! By if you are just looking for someone to "help" you, then looking for the "needle in a haystack " manager is even more aggravating. If you can't find a regular employee to help, what makes you think a manager is gonna be around the corner? Haha. I don't waste any of my time. No service, no sale. When I get a chance I might shoot em an email. Might not. They shouldn't have to be reminded of why they are there.

Trust me Cabelas is not hurting finacially. The credit card deal is funded by the company backing the card. 25% off one purchase vs some one having their credit card is a no brainier. The majority if people with credit cards carry a balance 365 days a year and they charge about 15% to 20% interest on that. It is a money making business. And they love giving credit to sportsmen as we have a better than averagetrack record of making our payments on time. I usually experience this every other trip or so to BPS. The last time I was hit up to take on a credit card I was looking @ shotguns @ the Bossier store. They had a teenager working the isle in front of the counter with a clip board and crdit apps. It was a really sweet deal but I don't do credit cards anymore. I go strictly cash on anything that isn't transportation, education, or real estate.

Letting Cabelas be the local Ranger dealer in Ft Worth would keep me from buyin another Ranger here. I have a place on amistad but keep boat up here and wouldn't want to pull it all the way to DelRio for service

Yea there employees really rood to, last week my wife and I were in the fishing department looking for a certain bait we were unable to locate it but we did see the red headed girl and an old little balding man cussing another employee who didn't come in that day for some reason. I thought Cabelas was a Christian based family ran group , the language these two were using would make a sailor hold his head low. I never was asked if I needed help but I did hear enough to know I will never be back, especially with Anglers Pro Tackle not that far away as well as lowered price

I ordered a craw worm from Cabelas online and they sent me the wrong color. I sent the product back and after several emails they credited my account with a full refund. Then they sent me an email saying that they had the one I wanted and I could order it over the phone to make sure I got the right product, so I did that. They sent me the wrong color a second time, the same color they sent me the first time. Does nobody at Cabelas check to see what they are actually sending you? The invoice showed what I ordered but it was something different in the box. Very poor quality control. I am done with Cabelas.

IS it just me or has the Ft Worth Cabelas gone or is going bad, it appears to me that they must be hurting financially because every time I go in there the first thing they say is save $25.00 when you get our Cabela card. I have noticed the moral of the employees has gone way down and the ones that were good employees in the fishing department and boat sales are no longer there. I don't know what is going on there but it's not just in fishing and boat sales, even in he hunting, guns and archery departments customer service has gone south over the last couple of years, did they change managers in theses departments get a new store manager? .
So you walk in, and mentally assess the entire cabelas store is Wasyed....I call Bull on that process. This takes more savvy than that simply sniffing around. You probably work for BPS ...

Talking to the MOD may/may not help...In one specific occasion...I waited 15 min at the reel counter with a rod in hand to check the balance...the employees behind the counter never asked me if I needed help..one just stood there with a "ball" of rubberbands...bouncing them up and down...I wanted to see how long it'd take until I got help....after 15 min...I was so p'ed off....I layed the rod down and left...BPS lost a $250 sale...if I'd talked to a mgr...it wouldn't have made any difference...I went home immediately emailed the mgr...requesting him to respond to my email......still nothing.....I HATE that particular BPS..

I have found that with everything retail one needs to be very forgiving of the salesperson. When it comes to sporting goods the consumer often knows much more than the salesperson.
Basically in retail sales they have to sell you something for more than it's worth or get you to use their money (financing) to pay for it. Brick and mortar retail operates on such thin margins that it takes very little to upset the bottom line and when operating on the scale that these giant retailers do the numbers are huge.
Any sales marketing representative is only as good as their last year of sales which is what future goals are based upon. When precious little of the goods we buy are made right here in the U.S. of A. the whole premise of supporting your fellow American falls flat at the feet of the all mighty dollar and the pursuit of it.
Don't even get me started on restaurants.. do you tip? why? I know that many of our children will end up working in sales or service of some type where they will be judged and payed based on performance. It is in your best interest to help that salesperson / waiter / worker learn what it means to be better by following your good example..
