TFO 3wt finesse is what I have been using for several years now. Its a sweet little rod.

I also enjoy my 3wt Finesse TFO. Great little Rod that performs way above expectations.

Usefulness depends on your fishing. A 3wt can be great. Definitely for small black bass, white bass, sunfish, trout. Small creeks and ponds. Some people use them for everything these days, though maybe undergunned for some of that.
I have fished the Finesse and do like it, but cast the Redington Classic Trout 3wt (short version) before you decide. Lighter, cheaper, nicer hardware than the TFO, and comes with one of those pesky rod tubes. Seriously the thing casts like a premium rod and is a real 3wt in flex.

I have used both a white river 3# in 5 foot and a custom 3# in 7.5, both are good rods. When I first started I did feel undergunned and lost a few fish, but that is glory of light tackle, you enjoy the ones you land. Afterlearning fly weight and wind limits, i really enjoy the challege. I have used both rods on small streams with great success, the rare bowfin seems to be the tackle buster. If you are fishing tight cover or steams where suttle presenation is needed a 3# is the way to go. It will make 6 oz sunfish a pound. Good luck

I use my TFO 8' 2wt. Pro II a lot in both fresh and salt water. The best money I ever spent. When the specks gang up under the lights, when the white bass are running, when the crappie are up shallow; it's the only rod I use. On my last trip down in Rockport I caught dozens of 18" and 20" specks on it. When I went to the Keys last year I had a ball with it fishing for snappers, grunts, jacks, and grouper on the channel edges.
Go for it; you'll be glad you did.

Just wondering why the glass rods in the 5wts down are not talked about/recommended more. I know TFO has a 3wt glass in their finesse series also.

I have a bunch of 3 weights and like them all; the finesse I have is a 4 weight but it is a sweet rod and is a little better in the east texas winds. I have several fiberglass 3 weights and they are preferred when brim fishing; a 4 weight just handles the wind a little better than a 3 weight and we seem to always have wind on the big east Texas impoundments. I prefer the fiberglass in the shorter, under 8 foot lengths; anything over 8 foot I feel is better in graphite because of the rod weight and balance. Like Brad above I have a slew of 3 and 4 weights I'd sell as I have way more than I need(rodbuilding is one of my retirement hobbies)-p-

Any thoughts or advice on the usefulness of a 3#? Light weight rods are fun on small fish and can land big fish. I have a TFO #2 and Cabelas#3 both are sweet for catching Blue Gill and Bass. On the #3 I caught a few Stripers. Useful rods for creek and pond fishing. Can be used as recorded by others above for sea and lake.

Oh, I just remembered that my rod has a Lamson Konic reel, not the Anglers Roost. If you don't see what you want at Bass Pro, my offer is an unbelievable one for that kind of a package.

I guess I'm in pretty tall cotton as another owner of TFO Finesse 3wt. (a 7'9" matched with Rio Gold) Last summer I had an afternoon on a high alpine stream in SW Colorado fishing drys for native cut throats that could only be described as pure magic. I stuck over 40 of them before the icy water finally overcame me. (Left the neoprene socks in the car miles away!) It's a great rod!
