Does anyone use their phone for navigation/GPS o the lake? Any app suggestions, reviews, whatever? I don't have GPS, but figure I have the phone so there has to be a few good options as far as helping me navigate, mark coordinates etc.

Let's hear it fellas!

Thanks,
Richard

This...even if you can't afford a Navionics chip for your Lowrance/Humingbird unit, you can find spots on this app and write down the coordinates/manually plug them in

If you have a tablet with wifi that would be even better than using the phone.

I seen the other day that they are making a new system that you hook up a transducer and such to your boat and it will blue tooth to your phone or I pad. Price was pretty cheap also. Can not remember who makes it though. But Navionics works well and like Bill. D said its only about $15.00..

I have the Navionics mobile app on my Iphone 6 - the one thats around $15 - its pretty awesome, I wish the map detail was that good on my boat, I heard if I buy an updated map chip (the one I have is several years old) then it would be but they are about $160 - so I haven't bought one yet...
I don't use it on the lake that much but I have and it does keep track of where you are etc, I'm talking about the app on my phone

I don't want to take over your thread but I am wondering if anyone knows this for sure.

I have an Lowrance HDS7 Gen 1 with Structure Scan - if I get a new Navionics chip will I have the same type of detail that I see on my Iphone?

I have the phone app and a Navionics chip with a Lowrance unit. It looks exactly the same to me but with more features on the chip such as shaded areas for timber, a few more labeled areas, etc.

Trimble GPS Fish Free is a good one too for marking stuff. It also has topo and aerial overlays. They have a Hunt one too that I used a lot this year.

What Lowrance unit do you have? I wonder if they are newer as in Gen 1, 2 or 3 if they will look similar with an updated map? Because mine is not anywhere close to the level of detail I get with the App on my phone.

The navionics app is really nice. I have it loaded on my iPad & my iPhone. I really can't tell the difference between the app and my actual chip. The one thing I can tell you is your phone will get hot & cut off if you leave it running for a long time. I'm not sure if the new iPhone 6 will get hot.
Good Luck,
Mike

Have a Blessed Day,
Mike

I have a 12 touch, but when I used it in my 10 Gen 2 it showed all the detail also. The problem might be in your settings. I'm going by memory when I tell you this part, but go to your Nav menu...somewhere in there you will need to look for boxes to tick such as "show seabeds".
