It really depends on your budget and how far you are planning on taking jig tying in the future. If you just want to tie a few here and there then a budget kit for under $50-$75 is for you. If you are looking at making many jigs and want a sturdy vise and good tools then go with buying your supplies you need separately or in a kit more expensive over $150. The vise is the most expensive item usually.
I started with a bargain Bass Pro Shops kit and bought a few items like a better bobbin and finisher and still use them all the time! I ties at least 30 jigs a month with no problems.
I would suggest to get a better vise if you plan on tying more!

I have been tying for a few months have tye alot of jigs. I started out with the starter kit from Crazy Angler and was happy at first. Now i am starting to see that I need a better vise. I wish i would have gotten a good peak vise to begin with. With that being said, its up to you. Check out the starter kit on Crazy angler, and then hit youtube and look at some of the videos on there about the peak vise. Its pretty awesome, and durable as all get out. Also, I see that you are from my area, where do you fish at?

Yep, I started with the one from Crazy Angler Tackle also. You will get most of your materials from him any way. I still use most everything that came with that kit. I don't tye on the vise any more, but still use it for other things. Great company to do business with...

I looked at the one crazy angler has and all you would need to go with it is some flashabou and hooks. After tying a few you will know if its something you want to do.

I did a lot of research before buying a kit. All the advise was to upgrade to something better than a starter kit.

The Peak rotary vise is the workhorse and cost around $150. I ended up purchasing the APEX rotary vise for around $115 and have been very happy with the decision.

I ended up spending extra on tools as well to insure I had a kit that would last me a lifetime.

I have been purchasing materials ever since.....................
