Is it not fair to say that every pro with a show has to pimp the products paying the bills. Without those sponsors i would guess most of them couldn't continue to fish for a living.

This is why I liked the In Fisherman show-they spent a lot of time on technique and presentation and didn't just hype the lure of the day.
And just take these shows for what they are-entertainment. There are no majic lures!!!

This is hilarious. Longeye, Jimmy Houston finished the 2013 FLW Tour season at 35th in AOY points and qualified for the Forrest Wood Cup. Outdated pro? He's been fishing tournaments professionally since 1968 and still does. 47 years of competition at the highest levels. Yep, he's all washed up.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

I don't think Bill or Jimmy could compete with today's pros over a full season any better than the 1970's Cowboys could compete with today's Cowboys. But in their day Bill and Jimmy were really good!
Jimmy has qualified for 15 Classics and was the 1976 and 1986 AOY he has won over 1 million dollars on tour.
Bill Dance- 23 National Bass Titles; Bassmaster Classic Qualifier 8 out of 9 years and finished 2nd in 1973. Three time B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year 1970, 1974 & 1977. Of 78 total B.A.S.S. entries, finished 64 times in the money. 7 wins, 8 times runner up, 6 third place, 40 top ten finishes (51% of tournaments entered) and 51 top 20 finishes (65%). In first 11 tournaments, was only out of the top 7 once. Won 7 of the first 17 events entered (41%). Retired from competition in 1980 at the age of 39. Credited with catching the first bass in B.A.S.S.
Those guys were and are good.

I personally like Jimmy Houston and all the other guys that are old and outdated, like me. I learned a lot from them. The young guys of today that think they are great fisherman or always asking for info about where to fish, what baits to use, and which way to throw them. I don't mind helping anyone but if you already know it all and have a list of sponsors then I'm to old to help you.

I'd put my money on Jimmy & Bill in their prime against "modern" pros without today's electronics. Not taking anything away from today's guys...they'd all kick my butt, but there's something to be said about the ability to locate fish without the aid of modern fishfinders/GPS.

Age and drive is all that has slowed them down. If they in their prime today they would simply learn and use technology just like we do. They would be just as great because they have more natural ability and instinct than most.

Agreed...Here is a fact Fellas...Without those sponsors none of us would even be having this conversation because there would be no show to debate.

I remember reading Bill's book Bassin Objects back in 80 or 81. It was cutting edge and helped accelerate my learning curve. People forget these guys did without fancy depthfinders and gear. They new how to use what they had, if you really know how to use a flasher it's amazing what old timers can pick out, it just takes alot more passes over and more time Paper graphs would show great detail too!!
