Im taking my son out tomorrow for his first time Flyfishing and would like to go someplace local. People are recommending Broken Bow and the Blue River, but we are open to DFW ponds and such. Id just like to take him someplace where he stands a chance of catching at least a sunfish.

Any recommendations?

As cold as the DFW weather has been this week, sunfish may be hard to find. I'd go for trout at either the Blue, LMF, or one of local ponds that was just stocked such as the one in Denison.

I am going to agree with Rex on this one, the warm water bite maybe off.
If you could hit some of the places they have stocked trout you might have some luck.
I love the Lower Mountain Fork. I like the Blue but im afraid it is going to be murky with the rain the last couple of days.
One thing to consider if you venture to Oklahoma this time of year is license fees. At the Blue you either have to have a yearly license or a temporary license with a conservation license (cheaper to just get the yearly license).

We are in the Frisco area. Going to Oklahoma is not an option as I've got to meet someone during the early afternoon to discuss a new house.

We will probably pick a random pond for casting practice, and im sure he will have fun doing that.

Check the TPWD North Texas trout stocking schedule, Bethany Lakes park has already been stocked. I was told that small olive or green woolly buggers work good on them. The only problem is it's not C&R so you have to keep them.
