Yes it is possible to fish the Yegua coming up from the lake on those days that the trailway is closed for hunting. Newmans Bottom will be closed to traffic to the parking lot and the duck hunters will likely be at the mouth of the Yegua. As a courtesy to all the hunters we should avoid the area if at all possible. The duck season ends the last of January but until then it's a good idea to access the Yegua at Newmans Bottom and avoid the conflict.. The fish will be there no matter what so we should share the lake with the hunters who have fewer options as to where they can hunt..

I'm gonna try to be there by about 8am and fish until I have enough fish (those I'm willing to clean). I'm going to fish hard on the way down because the fish have been found several times near where we launch but not necessarily where I've caught them before! There doesn't seem to be a sound reason why the fish are hanging where we have been finding them.. almost seems like we are pushing them up and down the creek.

I wish I could get my boat up in there. I have tried two times to find my way up that creek and I have yet to make it. I don't know where the mouth is.

I have this strange feeling I'll be out there, but probably leave the boat at home. On my last attempt, I spun the hub on my prop. But it didn't happen close to the creek. Something stupid I did about a half mile from the creek in the shallows. I may borrow my cousins kayak for that day, who knows. She doesn't use it much during the winter months.

With the rain we received last night and all day Thursday/Friday I'll bet the creeks are a mess.. the lake just hit pool level 238+ early this AM see: http://somerville.lakesonline.com/Level.asp

I'm going anyway if just to spend the day outdoors.. It will be just a walk / hike photo/video kind of day to update all my friends.. the duck hunters should be happy wink

We got a good rain here last night. About 1-1/2 inches. Just got off the phone with my Mom, she lives real close to the middle Yegua, they received 1-1/2 inches as well. So with the ground soaked from the drizzle, most of this rain last night should enter into the creek. Look for a pretty good rise by tomorrow. And we have more rain forecast for next weekend. Let it rip, we need all we can get.
This little rise should show a few more fish how to get up into the creek. I wouldn't be surprised if the gate to newmans was closed. That last little rain we had, had the road covered in flowing water about two weeks a go. It washed the road out a little.

My total rainfall for the past few days is 2-1/2 inches. The 1-1/2 inches fell last night. That's why I think the creek will rise pretty good by tomorrow. I'm thinking about going today, but I probably won't go. But the thought is there.

Talked to Ben a few minutes ago. Glad I did, it saved myself a trip to the creek. He said the creek was running pretty good and rising. Oh and the fish where not bitting at all. That right there will stop a person from going. LOL But a good rise will definitely keep this year's spawn looking better and better as we near the spawning time frame. The end of February and all of March is awesome.
