Good thing is that on Fork there are a lot of solid guide options. Staying in business there year after year now requires you to keep a happy client base. I have never been with a guide on Fork that I wasn't satisfied with even when we caught only a few.

I have been with Mark Pack, Brian Duplechain, James Caldemeyer, Skeeter Fowler , Larry Large. Would recommend any of them. Just let them know what your expectations are. They will be straight up with you on what's going on at the time .

My wife and I fished with Mark Pack in early Nov. She has not fished much and just wanted to catch a lot of fish. Well she caught a 9.25 pound bass after about an hour and a half. To say the least she was thrilled. We caught about 50 fish that day but she had the largest one. This will not happen every time but we did have a great time. Mark put us on fish all day.

I honestly think they're all great. I don't think anyone tries to break into the Fork guide market before they're at top of their game. Each one will put you on fish if there are fish to catch. Those bad days, well I bet it was bad for 95% of the guides that day.

One thing maybe overlooked is guides are people and all have different personalities. Find a guide you get along with. Also some guides are better at marketing than others, it just means you might not see posts on TFF or Facebook, but they're still putting customers on 10 pounders and will be a great guide. Salesmanship doesn't catch more or bigger fish on the water, it just gets more people on the water.

Some of them prefer fishing deep open water, some would rather fish timber along creeks. Find one that primarily fishes to your style of fishing or to the type of fishing that you would like to learn. Each has strengths and weaknesses.

I just booked a trip with Rick Carter and he is one of the nicest people to converse with, he talks to you like he's your buddy not your guide. I've got people I fish with that I wish we're as nice as him.

+1 for sure. If he tells you he caught a DD then he actually caught & weighed a DD.

And I would venture to say that he catches as many as any guide on the lake.

Rick Carter is very good too. You will have a good trip with him.

I took a client (first time on Fork) with Lance Vick last December. I was very satisfied and my client loved the outing!

Would like to make another trip, when the price of oil recovers wink
