I mainly use 4.75 inch Roboworms and zoom finesse worms! Not to hard... Small drag then shake let sit for couple seconds! Ppl way overthink it

LOTS of variables in your question!!! There's possibly 10,000 baits to choose from so I would ask for some specifics. Lake of choice, depth your wanting to dropshot, structure/cover/flats/points, etc.

Any soft plastic will work on a DS rig, but I usually use a finesse worm. My 2 favorites are Roboworms and Zoom finesse worms. Don't overlook a baby brush hog though...

Sounds like you just don't want to tell him your favorite! Lol.

Drop shot anything. Dark in cloudy or stained water. Bright colors in clear, etc. same "m.o." as any other type of bottom baits.

More important is the hook, line, and rod. Get a Gamagatsu Drop Shot hook. It's kinda like an octopus hook with a swivel on top, and a easy weight change bottom. This is nice, since it allows you to easily change depth and to add/remove amount of weight.

As far as rods? Something similar to what you'd use for a t rig or finesse jig. Medium heavy and fast tip. Flourocarbon line in 12,15, or even 17. But better with 12.

Any kind of worm shape can work. And you can wacky rig the worm too.

Don't worry too much about what the lake presents you as far as structure and what not. If you feel like fishing, chunk it out there, wiggle it, drag it a few ft, wiggle it. You'll figure out if it's gonna work fairly quick. Sometimes it's as simple as a depth adjustment of the rig. You don't want to fish it too far below the fish. They can't see below them easily.

Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Jackall 4 in crosstail shad, consistantly caught fish for me in some very pressured water. If Im dropshotting its with that or the 4.75 straight tail roboworm.

Arron Martins has won several million dollars on the Robo worm drop shotting. He has a color they name after him. I prefer the Morning Dawn, you can also use a Chompers - 4" finesse worm in the plum color which is my favorite. They are very durable, I've used them 5 or more times per fish before having to change them out. I can't tell you how many times when I've been fishing and could not get a bite, and then switch to a drop shot and bam, it's amazing, and is so overlooked as a wimpy bait for small fish. Use a number 1 drop shot hook, it's extremely small, but i've caught them up to 7.5lbs. Go book you a trip with David Ozzio at Lake Fork in May, he'll blow your mind drop shotting trees.

+1
Both are great baits. The MM3 color roboworm will produce in most ETX lakes. Another one I would add would be this:
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Roboworm_Curly_Tail_45_8pk/descpage-RW45CT.html#multiview
In the hologram shad color. It's a great shad imitation, especially for deep feeding fish in the summer.
