I lived in Henderson, 18 miles from the ramp, fished it year round. Summer months maybe only 4 boats on the water, very little pressure.
I am not making any decisions until the bourbon kicks in!

The cold side in March and April is fantastic and few boats are on the lake

You should have fished it back when it had grass in it. Oh my goodness it was good.

You should have fished it back when it had grass in it. Oh my goodness it was good. You got that right. My first Century Bass Club tournament ever was there back in January in the late 80's. The one thing that sticks out in my mind was fishing that time of year with Zara Spook topwaters and flipping jigs in the hydrilla. Our first tournament of the year is there January 18th. Always look forward to going to Martin Creek.

A 29.48 pound stringer won a tournament last February on Martin.
To whom much is given, much is required.

It was a place that on your worst day it was going to be 15lbs. I haven't been since the grass was killed in '99,'00. Punching that deep grass was so much fun.

Fished a tourny back in the day on Martin, in january and 12 degrees and my partner ran us all the way to the upper end above the highlines at 60 mph first thing that morning. As soon as he put the TM down he said I forgot my sunglasses we have to go back! So we did the run all over again! Dont remember anyyhing else about the day. I think my brain froze.

Great report Mark. I'm headed out there in a few weeks. My one trip out there last year was a very humbling experience.
That glass rod your friend is throwing is fantastic for square bills. I can't tell if that's the Seeker or Power Tackle but it has opened my eyes to fiberglass rods.
I'm glad you had a good trip.

I bet you and Ricky Williams fish together a lot

Thanks for a great day Mark - we did have a lot of fun on a brand new lake for both of us. There are tons of trees in the water - be ready to deal with banging your squarebill info rocks and trees all day - the first 5lber add his way around two trees on his way into Mark's Ranger - one right by the boat that I ultimately has to carefully reel down to to and poke it off and then quickly hit the reel button so as not fight a 5 with no line out.
Anxious to get back and explore some more.
Jackson - the rod is a Seeker RPS T706C - it's an S-Glass blank and it great for Squarebills - but they are getting hard to find. I have started looking at blanks from Seeker and Swampland to. Possibly have another one made.
