I would seriously put Sugar up against any big fish lake in Mexico right now. I would give Tommy Law a ring or email and certainly kick the tires if I was you...... especially if you are looking in that Spring/Summer time frame.

txtoby is on the forum. He can make your trip the best experience you will have. Last month Mike (txtoby) and Jim (boing driver) had 10 bass all over 10 lbs., with two over 12 in that bunch. The lake is up, tons of the big fish are up there, Mike knows where they are and how to get them. The facilites are good, the boats are great and the guides are very experienced on the lake. www.bigbassfishingmexico.com

Mike's phone: 512-304-5534
Email: info@bigbassfishingmexico.com

If you tell Mike I had you contact him you will get the best rate possible.
Thanks,
Donald

If you are interested in a 10 day drive in trip; I am your contact. We fish for 6 days for the same money and you are able to save the price of your plane ticket.

Don Harper is right on the money. For big bass, Salto is the only place. Just fishing there ain't enough, unless you plan a lengthy stay. You need an outfitter that is there and stays on the fish like Stoby. Five nights and 4 full days of fishing is $1274 plus tips and airfare. Price includes trans to/from MZT airport. I can hardly wait to get back down there. Call Stoby. He'll tell you when the best time for big fish is...it'll surprise you.

How safe is it going across the border? Is it better to fly in or drive in?

I'd be very careful crossing the border.

I've been down to sugar three times this year and no issues but I crossed with my guide and he knows the area, the people etcetera.

He's born and raised in Guerrero Mexico on falcon.

I'd not cross alone with no local guide just me .02

Pro Bass Adventures is the way to go. Pre-spawn, spawning, and post-spawn fish are aggressive, and hungry, and you won't be going hungry. Go to www.mexicofishing.net to get all the info. needed to book. Went with them earlier this month and had the best time, best food, and best fishing I have ever experienced. 10# 6 oz. (pre-spawn) on a Pop-R w/ 20# Triline XT and a new personal best of 11# 4 oz. (post-spawn) on a Zoom magnum white w/ silver flake fluke fished weightless on a 6/0 EWG hook.

March would not be my first choice...or second or third. But any month on Salto is better than anywhere else on earth. Go when you can.
