FISHING REPORT
Guide Clint Wright

Hello to all my fellow fishermen and fisherwomen. This report is for Lake Fork, Texas 09DEC06. Lake Fork spring trips and Lake Monticello/Lake Welsh winter trips are being booked. If you have an opportunity to plan ahead it would be best to book your trip now for the best dates. In December I still have the following dates available 13,19,22,28,30,31. These January dates are still available 20,21,23,29. If you would like to book one of these dates call and leave a message. I will return your call with your booking information.

REPORT: The past three weeks I have been fishing three lakes, Lake Fork, Lake Monticello and Lake Welsh. This is due to my clients request. It is so neat to fish the different patterns of each of these wonderful lakes.
Lake Fork has been decent for numbers, but has definitely produced the bigger bite, with several fish this month weighing over seven pounds. We have been fishing primarily deep water with a hand painted Barfish pattern spoon. The fish are taking this spoon while we just drag it slowly from the bottom up to 12:00 and let it fall on slack line. The key to this is to find steep drop offs and mark the fish with your electronics. I have also found a shallow water bite, but it is on one day and off the next. The shallow fish for me are biting mainly after lunch and are taking a Carolina rigged 4.95 flirt in Big Texan. Find the main lake grass beds adjacent to deep water and fish that edge. I would also keep a trap tied on in a gold or craw pattern and fish this in the same area as the Carolina rig, be sure to keep sharp hooks on this bait. Lake Fork is around 5.5 feet low.
Lake Monticello has produced some nice size fish also. The big females are moving up into the shallows and eating the Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper with a 4/0 wide gap heavy wire hook. Color has not seemed to matter, but the Houdini has been the best of all. Once again we have caught more fish after lunch. I have had a few catfish trips lately on Monticello and limits are common on shrimp. This is a great way to get more novice anglers and kids into fishing! Lake Monticello is varying around 2 feet low.
Lake Welsh has been producing the highest numbers. Today we caught over 50 fish with the largest being 8lbs. The biggest decision on this lake right now is if you want to catch quantity or quality. The drop shot will catch a bunch of fish, but a skinny dipper fished weightless or Texas rigged sweet beaver with a pegged ounce tungsten weight will catch larger fish. Most of our big fish are coming off of wood, flipping. The key is to flip to the edge of the stump and let it fall along the side, bumping it on the way down. But, dont get to close to the area you are fishing, as the water is clear and the fish are spooky. Lake Welsh is varying around 2-3 feet low.
I will be fishing all three of these lakes from now until the end of January. Then its back to strictly Lake Fork for an awesome spring bite.

Todays Tip: On days like we have had lately, catching 40-80 fish in one day it is easy to forget to retie you baits throughout the day. It is a must to stop and cut off 3 foot or so of line every now and then. Then retie your bait on a fresh area of line.

If you would like to plan a trip to Lake Fork, Lake Monticello or Lake Welsh, give me a call at (903-342-3497 or 903-918-9469). I will work very hard to make certain you have a good time and hopefully catch a fish of a lifetime. My website is available at www.lakeforkdayandnight.com it is still a work in progress, but is going to be great. I try not to answer my phone while out with clients, so if I dont answer please leave a message (let me know what day or days you are requesting) I will call you back. Or email me at lakeforkdayandnight@yahoo.com.
If you are interested in a new boat give me a call, as a member of R&R Marine prostaff I will meet you at the dealership or answer any questions you might have, (903-855-8585) Pittsburg TX. Test-drives in Legend boats are available upon request. My 2005 TR-21 is now for sale. Also, my Nissan Titan is working great; Louann at Peltier Nissan (903-720-7786) Tyler TX is wonderful, you will not find a better price on Nissans.
If you ever see me at the Lake, please stop by and say hi. A wide variety of Reaction Innovations baits are now available at Oak Ridge Marina and Restaurant here at the lake.
I welcome beginners, experts and children.
Good Luck and stay safe,
Guide Clint Wright

Could you please post some of your recent Catfishing trips? I'm interested in a trip, how much do you charge and how big are the average cats?

How many Catfishermen did you have when you caught 40-80 cats? How many did you end up cleaning for the clients?
Thanks for you add, I'd really would like to see some pics of you catfish.

Thank you,
Captain

Captain,
Most of the catfish we catch are Channel cats. The fish we are catching on Monticello average anywhere from 2-10 pounds. The minimum length is 12 inches.
The 40-80 fish days from my previous post were black bass. But, with me and two other fishermen its common place to catch over 30 catfish in a full-day. The last catfishing trip I had was last week. It was a doctor and his son from Dallas. If I recall I cleaned 20 keeper catfish that night.
I charge $300.00 for a full day of catfishing. I can provide everything. All you will need is a fishing license.
Thanks for the inquiry!
