Fred and I fished from the low water crossing to the big pipes between 7 AM and 10 AM this morning. Roughly 24 hours after the rains stopped. When we got there there was 6 to 12 inches of water running over the low water crossing. When we left there was no water running over the concrete. Water was muddy and flowing good. We didn't catch anything but enjoyed the scouting trip anyway. I wish we had more time to run down to Wolf Pond but we had other plans. Saw a couple of bank fisherman fishing between the bridge and low water crossing. They hadn't caught anything either.

On Saturday the 17th of January 2015 there will be a one day event at Newmans Bottom aimed at showing fellow kayakers around the Yegua and Nails creek. Whether paddling up from the lake or down from Newmans Bottom this is your chance to learn about navigating and fishing the main feeder creeks of Lake Somerville. The rain we just received the week before Christmas will help bring more fish up into the creeks potentially making this the best fishing in seven years or more.. If the weather cooperates it will be a great day at the park and on the creek!

This weather pattern is good for everything.. In the Bryan/College Station area we just made it to "normal" rainfall totals for the year. I don't think we ever officially hit the 100 degree mark all summer making it one of the coolest summers on record. This has translated into a better than usual winter forage and has benefited all the creatures that depend on it to thrive and survive. With good winter/spring rains continuing little lake Somerville will be set for another great year of fishing!

Sunday I went fishing at Cedar Creek and fished there about two hours and did not catch anything. Water looked great at Cedar. I then went to Yegua and fished there for a couple of hours and got three big whites. The water was a little muddy but not too bad. Couple more days it should be on.

Water level just helps anglers know what is going on is all. The lake level is important as to if they can get up the creek from the lake. So is water flow. Just extra tools to use from your PC is all. Not really a big deal, but it can save someone a trip for nothing. It does me anyways.
I will try to get down there around Wednesday. It should be pretty good watercolor by that time. Cross my fingers and hope nothing else comes into play that will prevent me from doing so though. But I'm caught up on most things, so I should be good.

fishtx will catch those whitebass if they are in the creek so watch for his report come Wednesday evening.. I'll bet the fishing gets reel good up in the Yegua over the next three weeks especially if we have a warming trend and stable weather... kayakers need to be aware of the duck hunters and launch from Newmans Bottom if at all possible. You can go downstream from Newmans about 5 miles before you hit the lake and where the duck hunter are allowed to go. Nails creek is likely to have boat traffic up to the Flag pond cut where lots of duck hunters go to access that hunting area. I'm sure there are fish in Nails creek but certainly not in the numbers that we find in the Yegua.
Duck Season is Nov. 1 - Dec. 7, 2014 Dec. 20, 2014 - Jan. 25, 2015

The winds don't affect this area much due to the tree line. You can always find a hole with no wind to cast in to.
