Had the chance to get out in the new FX 15 this weekend to see what this updated Ultimate was all about. The first thing that interested me about this boat was the new seat bases allowing for a lower and elevated position. I have owned Ultimates before and the best mod I ever added was a PVC seat riser. Not needed with the new seat bases! In the high position, you are seated at the top of the gunnels, about where the PVC seat riser would sit you on the old models. The seat does tend to squeak a little when moving around in it but this is one of the very few minor issues I found with the boat.

Native did something else that is GREAT on this boat. Anchor trolleys installed on both sides of the boat! That is one of the first things I do with any new kayak. There is also gear track installed all over this thing. This is the tandem model but I chose to set it up solo for the first trip with Beaux. Lots of room for mans best friend in the FX 15.

This is a boat that paddles very well and will haul a ton of gear. It claims a capacity of 600lbs but I doubt I will push that limit even when I'm out camping on the river. It could use a rudder but handles very well as is.
Being a hybrid model, it does not have scuppers and is not self bailing so you will gather a bit of water in the boat from paddle drip and such. The old Ultimate models didn't have a good way to drain the boat. The FX has a HUGE drain plug at the bow and drains very fast when rolled over and lifted from the stern. This boat is priced higher then previous Ultimate models but with all of the new features I guess that can be expected. If you have any interest in paddling one, give me a shout and we can get on the water! MSRP $1899

All I gotta say is the ne fx,s are hidden gems. I love mine. most people Poo poo sinks but mane if you carry lots of camera gear or other gear in general they are great. I have never had water come over the sides or front. For general bass fishing it just works

Yeah Mike, you can REALLY haul some gear in this boat!
Brazos River, Thomas...
Not terribly heavy Red. I will have to check the specs. I will have it down around Rockport area in a couple of weeks to see how it will do in the bay...

I've had mine since August and have really enjoyed it.
I have fished it solo and have also taken the grandkids out in it tandem
It is really a sweet craft!

It's 81 pounds with the seat in it.

Nice review, I demo'd a 12 and liked it. That 15 looks super handy with all the capacity and room for gear.

The FX is much more usable than the basic. It's more stable and handles rough water much better especially with the Bow cover installed. It sits a little higher in the water and catches a little more wind but well worth the trade off in rough water.
I installed a Smart Track rudder and have been very happy with the FX.

I keep hearing good things about the FX. Everyone that buys one seems to love it.

I absolutely LOVE my FX 15 Solo. I have used it in lake and river and it handles well. I have had 600 lbs in this boat, and it WILL handle the weight. It could use a rudder, and the more weight you put in it, the more so you would notice needing one. However, I love this boat and can't wait to get back out in it soon!
