Hi y'all I need some help with making a good decision on a boat purchase. I have found a 2013 boat (It is new) that I like and it is at a real good price. Now I am thinking that if i wait until after the first of the year, that the boat may be a little cheaper than what it currently is. My bank said that the loan and interest rate was good for 30 days. So my question is, would you guys wait to see if the price comes down after the new year or go ahead and purchase it now?

If you and the bank like the current offer ... I'd buy now. You might miss out if you wait.

Price between now and the first of the year won't amount to enough to haggle over. If the boat is what you want, and in good shape, go for it now.

IDK, but wouldn't it be at its "End of Year" or "Inventory Clearance" pricing! I mean, doesn't a dealer have to pay taxes on remaining inventory as of 12/31?

Question is: How upset will you be if you wait and DON'T get it?

Thanks for the comments and advice. It is actually a dealership. And yes, it is part of the year end inventory clearance. I went to another boat dealer and he said that one thing I should remember is that even though its a new boat, its still a 2013 model and will be 2 years ole in 2 weeks. Man I tell ya, salesman sure do know how to play with your mind and cause you to second guess yourself. I will chew it over tonight and make a decision soon.

and yes sir I thought about the its already 2 as well but in the big scheme of things if you plan on keeping it a good while that wont make much difference has it been covered the entire time ? or did it get a bit of sun all summer for 2 years ? btw how much off the original sticker ? and what is one in excellent condition at 2 worth right now ? there are lots of factors you should think about and for sure ....watch out for them sales guys .... and don't turn into a "paint licker" .....

Sour grapes on the part of the second dealership. His story would be different if he had that one to sell.
As Ketchn states, part of it depends on how the boat has been stored. If it has been on the open lot, open to the elements, then it has had two years of wear on the boat interior. If it has set in the showroom then it shouldn't make much of a difference.
Also when was the boat physically manufactured? It may not be that old if it was made toward the end of that model cycle.
In most cases a "two year old" new boat where you are the first owner will only make a difference if you plan on selling it in a year or two.
If you plan on keeping it for several years the only place it will matter is in your bank account, in the savings you obtain by buying it now instead of at the start of the model year.
If I wanted it I would not wait. You have no way of telling how many are trying to make the second decision so you are taking a big risk in the hopes of saving more.
As was stated, you can make an offer to see what he says but expect to have it rejected if the current price is a fair price.

Never a correct answer....that said....a look at NADA or some other pricing / costing service and find out what this boat in excellent condition is worth, because frankly when you hook up to it and drive it off the dealers lot, that all it will be worth. Need to decide if you want to take the hit for depreciation, or make the dealer eat the hit. IMHO.....

Buz, you must make that decision each time you decide to buy a new vehicle. The dealer never eats the depreciation, as the depreciation that comes when you take a vehicle off the lot represents the dealer's gross profit on the sale of the vehicle.
A new, never used boat is worth more than a boat that has been used two years, regardless of how excellent a condition the used boat is in.
But the final decision must be his. Does he want a last year model new boat or does he want a used boat in excellent condition. Or does he want this model year's new boat, with full bragging rights for having the latest and newest.
Bragging rights are expensive.

Good things do come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle! The model years do make a difference in price a 13 boat is actually 2 years old depending on manufacturing date. You may have a good deal on the boat but remember we are 10 days away from the new year so the gates will be open for a lot more deals..IMO
