Also good flies for that spot would be good to know as well.

The LLELA about 5 miles away is stocked with trout in the winter. They were scheduled to put them in last week, not sure if they did. Google it.

Went to Llela last Friday and I think, all the people that were there thought that the stocking took place Friday Morning....but no, the stock took place early in the week, therefore the trout is somewhere in the trinity river...we were about 10, fly and spinner fisherman and now one caught anything. Even the wildlife officer asking for the licenses said that they were there...somewhere, but there.

The LLELA is a complete waist of time! I have fished it a dozen times over the years during their so called trout stocking and the truth is that the minute they release trout into that river they bolt miles down stream! I have fished from the spillway all the way to the railroad bridge, caught plenty of bass & perch but only 3 trout in 10 years! A your much better off driving to Oklahoma or to PK to fish for trout

FFF - the thread asked about fly fishing close to Coppell. POssum kingdom and Oklahoma are not close to Coppell.

The South Lakes Park Pond up in Denton stocks with trout every couple of weeks. It can get a little crowded on the weekends, but I have seen people fly fish there without incident.

There are no good winter "fly fishing" spots in or near copell, except for the trout stocked ponds and fly fishing in a pond for trout is a waist of time, the fish won't take dry flies and casting a stripping streamers will just tire you out! The trout swim around the ponds in a giant school making circle after circle until all the trout are caught, die or become food for the cormorants! fly fishing for bass & perch in the winter is strictly a steam or creek endevore since pond fish go to the middle & bottom of the ponds. I am an avid fly fisherman but when fishing locally in the winter I have to resort to my spinning tackle to catch fish.....

Agree. The warm water species metabolisms slow significantly. I use an ultra light, 8' spinning rod and a reel loaded with 4lb. line. My lures of choice are the Zoom albino tiny fluke and the 1" swimming minnow on a 1/32nd oz. jig head to get bass and some crappie during colder water. The smaller offerings seem to do the trick at least for some of the fish. I work them very slow.

The trout can be caught with a fly rod if they come in casting distance. That's the problem I've encountered. You need spinning gear with either super dupers or panther martins and sometimes a kastmasters to reach the trout when they stay far out in the pond.
