Do Peacock bass fight harder than Salmon and Rainbows? An 8wt was standard fare in Alaska for Reds, silvers, Pink and Chum salmon up to 20lbs.

A 6 or 7 wt was standard for fat Rainbows.

Watch the video I posted.

Guys use 100 lb braid to fish conventional tackle for them. smile

Mercy Yes. In a different, i'm a bad arse and you've just messed up my entire day kinda way.

From short runs RIGHT AT YOU to back and forth runs to cover, and then simply out to deep water and rest up for round 2, 3 or 9.

We broke 7' X Heavy rods, 80 lb braid there isn't anything made they can break to pieces or strip the gears out of. You really have to get lucky in some areas of the lagoons, best to fish the sand bars and open water to ensure you actually land one.

Going down next month. The largest rod I'm taking is a 10wt. Also 8wt, 5wt. and my Tenkara rods. No way I could survive a week of throwing big streamers with a 10wt rod. I want to have fun and catch a few of exotic "little" fish too. smile

Here is my biggest from the trip! 21 pounder caught on the first day.. Set a high bar and couldn't find one bigger all week unfortunately. Just the greatest trip I have ever been on though, such an experience!! Didn't catch this one on a fly, but did manage some good ones on it. My biggest was a 8 pound paca peacock on a green/white streamer and it was a great fight! Lots of little butterflies as well on a fly! The 8 wt handled them fine although I never had a really big boy on. anyone looking to make a trip to brazil, I recommend shelling out the money to go with "Capt Peacock" 5 star service and guiding and will show you a great time down there!
