What is the best paint or protective coating to redo my boat trailer with ? I have seen some factory trailers with a coating that seemed to be impervious to most rock chips. I have seen a couple that were redone with some type of bedliner .. but they seemed to fade pretty fast.
Powder coat is not an option. No one in this area has a big enough oven.

I looked into getting one of my trailers coated with bedliner. The person I talked to said that he had seen trailers rust out faster with the bedliner because it would develop small cracks and chips and then trap water agains the iron. Not sure of the truth of any of that but just passing along what I was told by a guy that coated lots of stuff.

No sir - I will remove boat and all hard ware lights etc.. and let a pro sand blast it and refinish.. After a career in the fire service I have breathed to many unknown chemicals and have a VERY low tolerance for any kind of chemicals..

Not sure of the truth of any of that but just passing along what I was told by a guy that coated lots of stuff. Not if it is prepped correctly before application. The stuff doesn't "peel" or bubble. So if it does rust, then it wasn't applied correctly. I have Raptor lined entire trucks and haven't had a single complaint. And these are not garage kept trucks. These are used and abused off road vehicles. Just make sure the entire trailer is sand blasted and CLEAN then spray away. It will last forever.

Im a sandblaster ,painter & coater,I recommend a product called pit guard. Made by ppg,or quatro paint. It's a 2 part epoxy primer coating, very tough stuff. Prep. Trailer, & sanblast apply this primer & paint with ppg. Pithane ultra. I think bed liner coatings are good in alot of places, but not on boat trailers. If done correctly this trailer will never need another paint job.
