I bought one of these yesterday at bass pro. The guy at the counter said that since I was going to run it straight to my to my hds 10, I wouldn't need the nmea starter kit. He said it would power itself through the cord and nothing else would be required. Does anybody have any experience with this? I am not going to create a network, just connect it to a single hds unit. He also warned it would continue to pull power from the battery even if the hds unit was shut off, just like the lss does if it isnt run through a switch.

Evidently he did not get properly educated before getting behind the counter to help the customer. The NMEA starter kit is required for the point 1 antenna.

I had the same experience. When they rigged my new boat the rigger connected the Point 1 directly to my HDS10. No workie. Have to have the NMEA starter kit.

Hook it up to the main power switch if you have one. That way it will power down whenever you turn off the main power.
