Is there really a big difference between 12lb and 15lb when it comes to lure action?

true... but you take a huge gamble on big bass lakes! Absolutely! Dobyns 805 CB is my rod of choice with 12# invisx, my biggest with this combo is a 9.6#. Can't muscle the fish in, but you'll land 'em with 12# line.

I use 15lb all the time. I can't tell any difference.....but my wife tells me I'm not sensitive so I probably don't count. :-)

Is there really a big difference between 12lb and 15lb when it comes to lure action? lure depth, regardless of any difference in action. You cannot get as deep with 15lb as 12lb, much less 10 or 8. And 7' 11" seems excessive... I like accuracy and feel that would hurt it, regardless of leverage for overhead lob casts... I don't reckon I'd get much more distance than I manage with my 7' 3" winch cranking rod *shrug* would've like more of a technical "how to use crankbaits" than "what equipment to use to use deep crankbaits"... I feel like that information is more prevalent and handy than readily available opinions about gear to use. Video had me excited to learn something new maybe but same stuff different spokesman essentially lol

I don't believe all the line size stuff. Distance gets you depth, hence the long lining technique. There is .002 inches of difference on line size between 12 and 15 lb Invisx. As far as action, get a very soft tip rod and adjust your retrieve. You will loose fewer fish with 15 lb test and a soft tip rod.

Several years ago I had a guide trip on Fork and we were trolling with DD22's. He handed a rod and reel set up to me and one to my fishing partner. My partner caught several fish and I had zip. The guide said that the crank bait must hit bottom to get a reaction bite. I told him I don't feel anything. He looked and said "Im sorry, that reel has 15 pound test line on it. I will change it to 12. After he did that, the DD22 was bumping the bottom and I started catching fish. A thinner line has less water resistance so it will allow the lure to go deeper. If both deep divers have the same amount of line out and you begin your retreive the one with the smaller diameter will go deeper.

I get that, i was just wondering if anyone knew how much of a difference it actually was, fishing around rock and timber with 12lb can hurt your feelings. As for rod length i love the dobyns 805cb, probably my favorite rod and with a good reel you can cast a long way

Is there really a big difference between 12lb and 15lb when it comes to lure action? I doubt you would be able to notice a difference in the "action" of a deep diving crank bait going from 15 to 12 pound line. I also use a 7ft 11 inch Duckett and a Dobyns 805CB and a Lews BB1 on each one for deep cranking. You can throw a deep diver a long way with those combo's.

I would agree that you may not notice much difference in the action of the bait but I will tell you this much. I had my hiney handed to me one day on Fork by a buddy throwing the exact same bait as me. The only difference was that he was throwing his DD22 on 10# fluro and I was using 15# fluoro. That hasn't happened to me very many times in my fishing career but it happened that day. Made me a believer. Am I nervous throwing a DD22 on 10# line?? You bet I am but he landed a 10.17 that day on it!
