If we don't get any rain these DFW lakes are going to be hard to get on, my question is when a lake is 10' low what are some good tactics and changes you make in your approach and presentations? A lot of structure seems to be out of the water, creeks not accessible etc... I find myself scratching my head a lot of times
Thanks for the comments and input

If you have a GPS unit now is the time to go around your lake and mark all of the good cover that is out of the water. That way when the levels do come back up you will have plenty of great honey holes.

Several options --avoid the issue all together and fish "constant level" lakes or head further east where there has been decent rainfall
--change your target species fish deep humps for hybrids and white bass maybe even consider targeting catfish
fishing a low lake now in the winter is tough, but if you can find a deep spring, water intake/inflow culvert/pipe, or an inflowing creek where there is some inflowing current; these can be good spots
during "warm fronts" in the winter; the north creeks can be good, especially along the edges of creek channels with timber earlier in the day where they will stage and the adjacent flat toward the end of the day when water is the warmest--particularly if there is grass or other cover on the flat. At the very end of a warm day in the winter, some active bass can be in very shallow cover.
fish the deepest parts of the lake and dam/rip rap/ and other rock that retains heat.

Buy a kayak to start fishing the lakes when they close all the ramps! Lots of great fishing models out there and after time these fish will be a lot less pressured. I have some friends tearing it up in some lakes out west that boats can't get on.

Thanks for the comments and input Fish it like the lake was always the size it is right now. Worry about the structure still in the lake, not on the shore. Really, not being a wise guy.
