Based on my results I'm clearly not guilty of it. Me too, everyone hates it when the honest angler "donater" stays home
I will be back. I'm never truly gone.....Last post by Brad RIP

I can't tell you how many cheaters there are each year, only how many get caught. A good cheater would never when a tournament and deal with a polygraph. Just place high enough to make money and not draw attention. If there's money involved, then someone is trying to figure a way to beat the system and get it. I'd put my money on more than 50 percent have cheating of one level or another. Just because a person didn't win in the tournament doesn't mean that they didn't cheat. Guess you know more bad folks in fishing than I do. I bet the number is less than 1% myself.

IMO I think it happens all of the time....if there is money = they will figure out how to cheat you out of it. Desperate folks do desperate things

Back in the early 80s there was a real cheating ring around when they had the Texas Roadrunner tournaments. There were guys bringing bass from Fla. and a few here were buying them. The ring got broken up and one of the ringleaders was found by a pond in Grand Prairie shot dead.

From the article ... "Fishing is defined by its long stretches of boredom punctuated by a few brief, thrilling moments of excitement." I don't think the writer is much of an outdoorsman nor an angler. Pretty funny. I have a weird quirk (several actually) about researching writers and columnists before or after I read their stuff. It helps me decide how much stock I put into the persons opinion. David Hill lives in Brooklyn. His writing has appeared in McSweeneys and the New York Times. He writes sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater.

I witnessed cheating in a tournament I wasn't even in. Told the TD before the weigh in. Not a mention of it before or during the weigh in. The TD told me afterwards he warned them not to do it again after the weigh in. They did not place in the money but were definitely breaking the rules. I don't think TDs want cheating associated with their tournaments so they will let minor cheating slide. I think that is a mistake. Rules are rules and you shouldn't need to be caught stuffing weights down a fish to be DQed from tournaments when you knowingly and purposely cheat. I disagree with your TD comments. I saw a gentleman bring a 12 pounder to the scales at Falcon a couple of years ago. The fish was protested and the angler who submitted the fish was disqualified and was subsequently banned from competing on the tour. The TD from the next largest circuit in the area also banned him because of the aforementioned incident. Bottom line there are some folks who will cheat when money is on the line (just like steroids in sports). That said, there are a lot of pretty decent anglers that just aren't at the level of competition to compete with great fisherman who spend a lot more time on the water than they do. At one time i fish all weekend every weekend, read constantly, studied lakes constantly and produced like someone who put that much time and effort into the sport. Since then my time on the water has gone down drastically (once maybe twice a month) and I have been very inconsistent, finishing in the Top 20 in in 3 of the last 13 Bass Champs tournaments I have competed in.

It actually is a well researched and accurate article that paints both the pretty and ugly sides of the history of bass tournament fishing. Having been present at several of the referenced happenings I can attest to some history of the story.

I fished one of the tourneys that they cheated in,the kykx big bass classic. Prizes were worth 105k that year. They then went to the kyks tourney and won that one. They finally got caught if I remember at another big payout down south. There was another time that a cheater was caught at the kykx tourney with weights stuffed in the fish. I guess stay away from the Kykx tournament!!!
I have a question since we are on the subject: do you think it is cheating if a tournament angler gets someone like let's say a guide's sd card and downloads some spots to their unit and wins with these spots?? Not trying to start any flaming but was curious what y'all thought???

Not trying to start any flaming but was curious what y'all thought??? Dude. That's been happening since the dawn of the smartphone. Hell. I have apps that will show me peoples favorite spots. It is a voluntarily updated app, but I have tried some of the locations marked on maps and they do seem to be pretty legit. There really isn't much of a way to prevent cheaters from finding ways to make themselves into something they aren't capable of being on their own merit. It's just what it is. Sad. But true. Of course, with cheaters and the things they skeem up, comes new ways to prevent them from gettin away with cheating. Lol. So, it's an ever evolving game of cat and mouse. One thing is sure, on the bigger tourneys the spectators crowding out us fishermen will keep everyone honest. They drift in close enough to see out lures and ask questions. Lol.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.
